We can do a Haynesworth style deal.
Sign him for five years. Give him a $10M signing bonus. Give him a guaranteed convertible $30M option bonus due in 2010. Give him a $1M salary in 2009 using option bonuses and other creative devices to push future compensation above the 30% limit.
Final 2009 cap hit: $3M
No point in trading Seymour, we would be locked and loaded for 2009, let Seymour play like a beast in a contract year.sign Peppers, trade Seymour and the other second to move up and grab Maluaga
The question is IF we do get Peppers and sign him to a deal, do we still go after Taylor? Would he agree to a deal making little money for a chamionship run? Think about THAT!
I do agree that either way, we do have to trade Green or Bruschi for a pick or someone else to make this deal work financially. I don't see the cap figure working with our current roster AND fitting in Peppers..... but if this goes through, we might be looking at one of the greatest teams, on paper at this point, ever assembled
Fine with me. How do we afford him? What is our cap space?
This would likely mean that Wilfork will not be getting a new contract?

FWIW, Miguel has the Patriots at $7.8M under the cap right now :
"The following figures include the cap impact of the Fred Taylor, Leigh Bodden and Greg Lewis acquistions and my guesstimates at the cap impact of the James Sanders, Nathan Hodel, Russ Hochstein, Shawn Springs and Chris Hanson signings. My numbers do NOT include the cap impact of the Mike Wright and Joey Galloway acquistions. According to my figures the Patriots' 2009 cap figure is $121,107,298 with 60 signed or tendered players. The 2009 salary cap is $127,050,000. The Patriots' 2009 adjusted cap is $128,884,466. I like to thank Adamjt13 for providing the information about the Patriots' adjusted cap number. So I have the Pats under their adjusted cap by about $7.8 million."
So they could do this and "only" have to open up enugh cap room for the draft choices if you assume they could do a long term deal with Peppers that had a cap hit the first year of about $8M which would be doable with a big signing bonus. They'd have a bit of work to do to open up the room for the draftees but they could do it especially as the roster would be some kind of complete after getting Peppers.
