Chad Scott was so effective last year that BB chose to play Alexander against the Colts over Scott. Chad Scott should have been more effective against Dallas Clark than Alexander. But Scott wasn't on the field.
You may have missed the part of Deus Irae's post where BB called him a corner.
Anywho, its clear this thread can be boiled down to a semantic argument. Italia says Troy never played corner because he never was in the "corner" of the pass defense. DaBruinz calls Troy a corner because he sure as hell didn't play safety. I'd go with DaBruinz on this, but really, this is an argument no one should care about.

Alexander is a linebacker, no?
My take was DaB said we're fine for cornerback depth because of players like (he mentioned these by name) Brown Anam and Richardson.
I myself would prefer Scott as a backup and believe that without Asante we have lots of backups and no top NFL starters, (I'm on the fence about Hobbs as a starter).
My position is the three he named aren't any better than waiver wire acquisitions, although Troy is a smart player.
DaBruinz said:And, as I said, the Pats also have options with Wilson and Meriweather. Both of whom played CB in college. And Wilson was taking a LOT of snaps at CB during last year's training camp.
He also called him a punt returner and with much more justification.
You counting on him to return punts this year?
Ray - My point is that Anam, Richardson, Williams, Brown et al were 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th on the depth charts (in no particular order). And, as I said, the Pats also have options with Wilson and Meriweather. Both of whom played CB in college. And Wilson was taking a LOT of snaps at CB during last year's training camp.
While Scott hurts the depth, I am not worried yet. Should the Pats lose James or Gay during training camp without Asante being signed, then, yes, I would start to be worried.
What's that.....Oh My God!...That's....That's......That's Hank Poteat music!!
A 4th for Paul Oliver from Georgia would look pretty good right now.
Wouldn't the NEP have had to surrender a 3rd-rounder for him?
It's still tempting, even at that price.
I don't think so SD had a better record than the Pats, but I could be wrong.
Wow, Cotchery and Coles are gonna rip apart your secondary come opening day.
