Did I understand correctly that Mrs. PFinVa is in hospice? If so, I'm so sorry. Please send her my regards.

@PatsFanInVa is she in Hospice due to the Corona Boi or something else? Didn’t 100% understand what was behind her hospitalization from reading that post. My sympathies, either way. I had some huge battles with her during our PoFo days, but she was a good woman. A great choice for one of my mod spots at our short-lived PoFo spinoff. I don’t know what I would do if my wife was in a similar situation and didn’t make it.

(& I am sorry but I dropped at least 1 other person who commented or inquired... I will look back through and pass along your thoughts)

Hey guys thanks to all of you passing along good wishes.

She has COPD which is now end stage. If you know about Hospice, you get in by having sufficient indications that it's a good bet you'll be gone in 6 months. She's been in hospice a couple years now. It's home hospice, there's not a place called "hospice" for us. She's oxygen dependent now, but by God, we've both quit smoking - so.

Anyway we were over here having our own personal experience of symptoms one doesn't want to have (or be around, I am sorry, it's true for both of us,) trying to be good people and take care of each other and sometimes remembering things we used to do together, and sometimes it was deeply enriching or some other movie of the week bullsh1t to go through this together, then BAM, up jumps the coronavirus and now everybody and his brother is about to have the same thing (or close enough, plus an evil killer fever) and it's not special anymore. I'm really pissed about that part.

Um I am not fishing for sympathy or whatever, this just is. She says she always liked this crew even when we were making each other crazy... :D

Many mainstream economists would say something similar, though. In economic terms, bBillionaires are a market inefficiency, they can't possibly use all their money in a productive way so they engage in rampant speculation or monopoly-seeking.

I could never vote for someone who doesn't think billionaires should exist. What if my hard work one day pays off to the effect of one or more billion dollars?

I'd give her a couple of rolls of TP.

I really really hope it will not happen after this tsunami the pulverization of small and medium side companies...

"And thus we drift toward unparalleled catastrophe."

America's optimism makes us innately hostile to anything built on the "masses" or "majority" or "the people" and their needs.

The reason: Until it's too late, we're all going to be exceptional, for reasons not evident to the observer. We're all going to win the tournament, we'll all be beautiful, our women will be strong, and all our children will be above average. So why TF do we want something that helps "everybody," since we're all better than most everybody... or, we're all going to be, because deep inside, we all are?

That feeling of "deserving" better-than-average has gotten a dark overlay lately... no pun intended... as people who have been left behind insist that they must have been shafted by someone... Oh I know, some other RACE of people who didn't DESERVE the "w" like MY race did! Something like that.

I think something like this is going on. Our good ol'-fashioned Normal Rockwell sensibilities got twisted into George Lincoln Rockwell sympathies... this is not good for anybody.

Anyhoo, just spitballin'.

Just to be clear, I'm actually a full blown socialist. If anyone actually thinks the way my post suggests, I want nothing to do with them.

If you don't mind me asking, since Mrs. P is in home hospice, are the nurses, Drs, SWs, etc. that go to your home wearing PPEs?

I ask because my wife (MSW) works for hospice and none of the front line professionals are being provided with protections, which makes the self quarantining not very efficient.

Wishing Mrs P comfort.

I mean, you're one of the rubes that would have been goosestepping right along back then, so this reply seems apt.

Nice spitball.

Not an innate hostility towards anything built on the masses rather a hatred towards a perceived unfairness. "I work and have nothing but he doesn't work and the government gives him cable".

I personally am in favor of affordable health care as well as other meaningful "socialist" programs but do not support the suggested methods to fund them.

Imo, if we wanted to fund those programs fairly we would have to drastically change taxation (i.e, flat tax for every dollar earned), introduce a national sales tax, and redesign the welfare system to one that incentivizes getting off of Welfare.

Punt.

We were as of last week required to see the nurse once weekly when we decided we were self-quarantining. Nursie came in, I almost bit her head off about washing her hands before she went to examine the Mrs. Wasn't gloved or masked... They allowed us to go to biweekly, and called us this week instead. She's going to take her own vitals anyway, we are thinking about asking for full tele-comfort-medicine so that we don't need to see the vectors I mean nurses.

Also the one nurse we liked got in a car crash about maybe 3 weeks ago, which makes it worse.. these are virtual strangers, not observing precautions, popping in without any signs of handwashing even, wanting to be the nurse... FEH.

You'd begin to understand what a billion dollars really means and would laugh at yourself if you came back here and read your post.

A million seconds is 11 and a half days.
A billion seconds is almost 32 years.

Once you get over 50 million, you're in a place where you never have to worry about money again, your kids and grandkids never have to worry about money again, and you can have almost anything you want, forever.

Yeah, he is the self-proclaimed "Milquetoast Fence-sitter". I also enjoy Steven Crowder occasionally, but people's superiority complexes start kicking in when you start naming people like Styxhexenhammer, Vincent James, Sargon of Akkad, PJW, etc.

There are names on both sides that I listen to. I enjoy taking it all in. Even Destiny is entertaining even though hes left of me.

He’s been a Senator in a position of power in a repeat overly safe seat for quiet a long time.

And billionaires only exist because of a system that creates world wide inequality. Also it’s basically resource hoarding. You have to fix the system first. It’s really not a feasible way to maintain society and we’ve seen what happens when it’s allowed to swing too far in that direction (hint it always ends badly).

Capitalism doesn’t work unregulated. Certain services need to be classified as utilities and not privatized. There’s a reason we don’t have private police forces

No one here has said anything about unregulated capitalism or having everything privatized?

Which isn’t a socialist

The DSA believes in abolishing capitalism for socialism.

No it’s not. Socialism by definition is about ownership of the means of productions. It’s so fundamental to it that you can’t separate it out of the equation and every equal socialism against. It’s like taking oxygen out of water.

We already have taxes. Sanders has never in a campaign or while in office made an effort to raise taxes to 100%. Ever. He’s advocated for adding new taxes, but never close to what is being described. Unless you think taxes are fundamentally socialist. In which case nearly every society for about a thousand years is socialist.

Medicare for All is expanding a current program to all people. It treats healthcare as a utility. To call this socialist you would have to concede that we are already socialist for having a Medicare program and also we lost the Cold War because you would then have to define nearly all of Europe as socialist as well. Also you’d have to have very uncomfortable discussions about other services we treat as utilities.

Free college. We already have free K-12. We’ve also already bailed out federal debts and banks before. This not different.

Most of this is expansions of things we’ve already done

Exactly what the DSA wants

Jesus man check your facts. He advocated for 100 percent tax rate for people who made over a million dollars in the 70s.

Most Americans do not even know what M4A is. A single payer system would be nationalizing it though would it not? We have a mixed economy just like the scandanavian countries
