OT: Alex Smith says Brady played in the most uncompetitive division in NFL history

I never understood why people always harped about the AFC East being so bad. It was rarely ever that horrible. I think a lot of those teams would've won the division in many years if they played in a different division, but unfortunately they had to play in the same division as the Patriots. Each team periodically looked pretty bad but rarely were they all bad at once. Almost every division has a ****ty bottom dweller every year, that's just how it goes. The Jets and Dolphins made the playoffs several times during that 20 year span IIRC, that can't happen if the AFCE was this non-stop dumpster fire.

It seems more like a mantra that was said so often by the anti-Pats contingent that it became accepted as reality without actually being backed up by data.

The division was not really competitive at all. While they may have given the Pats a scare or had a fluke win every blue moon, they were really not much of a threat to win the division.

The mid to late 90's was the best.

WInning record against all teams (w/ NEP & TB). Looks like NFCW was his biggest challenge (.556%). He did own the Bills, lol.

Of course it wasn't competitive. Pats were ridiculously good for 20 years. There was no division that would have been competitive year in and year out for them.

Brady 33-3 vs Buffalo lol that's insane.

Josh Allen is 6-5 against us including the playoff game so he won't get to Brady's mark. What a shame.

It also ignores Brady’s Orca effect. The greatest apex predators keep all the lesser ones away. The only players that wanted to come to the AFC East were defensive players to play against Tom. No Star quarterback wanted to come here and fight for wildcards every year. This ocean belong to Brady.

Fast forward to his first run in the NFC and everyone started clearing the **** out or retiring.

Also ignores the Jets going to back to back AFC championship games. Alex Smith’s take was so ****ing abysmal he should have been fired for it.

Yeah, it's a shame we never got to see Brady against the kind of teams that make the Super Bowl and conference champipnships!

Maybe, just maybe, the Pats were really good during those 20 years and made their division look worse than it was.
Right. It was "uncompetitive" because Brady played in it.

Brady’s record outside the division is better than his record in it. Serious low IQ take.

His win record percentage in Super Bowls is better than most QBs careers.

The only thing they can argue, that is true, is the Pats dominating the AFCE, winning the division 11 years in a row and 16 out of 17 when Brady wasn't the QB (2008). Brady's record winning the division is a whopping 17-1 (.944).

I agree with this, and will also say: I fail to understand how Alex thinks that remark counters his assertion about the league today. We're talking about the entire league, which is not looking great. Offensive product is garbage across the board, offensive-line play is failing to transition (I think this is the number 1 woe), and then, to Brady's remark, the rules are actually encouraging less cerebral play.

What tf does a single division's previous history have to do with the league as a whole lmao?
