Just in time for the Pats game, Ryan said he will go back to the Ground and Pound approach with a porous o-line and no legitimate lead RB.
On second thought: Jets will go back to “ground and pound” approach | ProFootballTalk
I am sure opposing teams are shaking in their boots of the prospect of Shonn Greene and 39.25 YPG and 3.1 YPC average. Jets fans better hope he is playing a Rope-A-Dope with Belichick because I think the only chance the Jets have to win this game is on the arm of Sanchez and hope the Good Sanchez shows up and not the crappy one. If the Pats can shutdown Darren McFadden (except for one 41 yard run), they certainly shutdown Shonn Greene.
I know you only think the Patriots are the greatest and the bestest at everything, but I'll use a line you use every day.
The Jets OL and the running game isn't as bad as you might think...
Jets have struggled on their OL because Mangold has been out and they've had a rookie who has been with the team for 3 weeks playing in his place, quite different from a multiple year veteran who knows the system, and Mangold is the leader of the OL in terms of line calls and communication, he is the rock, much like Mankins is the rock for the Pats.
Looks like Mangold is back last week, I thought he would be, he nearly returned last week, but another week was probably the best decision.
The depth also took a hit with the loss of Turner, and Mulligan as the blocking TE has struggled.
The team is also trying to build chemistry in the passing game with 2 new WR's, and emphasized this in training camp, so the running game took a hit.
Running the ball requires repetitions and execution, couple in no off-season, injuries on the OL, and regression at TE, and an emphasis to be more balanced, the running game has taken a hit.
It makes sense for the Jets to try and recommit to running the ball, but it will still be a more balanced attack, and considering how bad the Pats are on D, I'm pretty sure they'll look to be balanced this week as well, and will look to exploit the holes in the Patriot back 7. Mayo being out will also help the Jets get the running game back on track
