Re: * The 2012 Combine Drills!! *

Perry seems like a good fit for a 1-gap 3-4 like the Chargers run. Yesterday he says he wants have his hand in the dirt and sack the QB. Seems like the type of player who covets sacks because thats where the $$ is at.

Sacking qb's is a bad thing?

Re: * The 2012 Combine Drills!! *

Dont jump the fences just because a good 40 time. Its like people jumping the Hill bandwagon yesterday. Of course its good but its still just one factor.

Still impressive, I agree.

not jumping any fences.......moe importantly, his 10-time (what the coaches are really looking at for this group) was even more impressive. couple that with his bench presses and you have a complete body...he was already considered a mid/late 1st rounder and the knock against him (his mobility) has been relieved.

I just wonder what the pats defense would look like if wilfork got hurt. he played more than anyone last year, so they need another body like him. poe does that now and beyond the days of wilfork.

Sacking Quarterbacks is a great thing, but as an OLB in a Bill Belichick scheme it can't be the only thing.

Re: * The 2012 Combine Drills!! *

Mr. Poe is killing my plan of him falling to the Patriots. That's not very sporting of him.

McCLellin looks very very good.

I want to go back to the 3-4. Put Vince on the NG. We already have an excellent backup in Kyle Love. We have Deaderick as a 3-4 de. I'd like to sign one in free agency. Maybe a guy like K. Langford. And draft one early. Like Fletcher Cox. Willing to move up. 31 and 63 to late teens if necessary. Take your olb at 27.

Kyle Love and Ron Brace are Wilfork's back up. Unfortunately we have crap at DT (plus to Love's credit he has developed nicely) so Love was usually playing next to Wilfork.

I absolutely love Dontari Poe but he won't make it past the Jets, and if he does he won't make it past the Steelers. Plus we have more glaring needs to take care of in the 1st.

He shouldn't move like he does, the kid is an incredible athlete.

Re: * The 2012 Combine Drills!! *

The whole Combine is just another input to the entire process. If, as advertised, Stephen Hill runs a sub 4.4 (as he did yesterday), then the scouts have to go back and look at the tape again. Hill is hard to judge coming out of an option offense.

Can he run good routes? Did he drop alot of passes that were thrown to him? How good was his option QB at throwing? Was he double covered? Did he have to face man, press coverage? Did he have trouble getting of the line of scrimmage against tight coverage? How was his competition?

Dontari Poe runs, jumps and lifts lights out! How was he on game day?

They call this the Gym Short Olympics for a reason. No one ever won a game in their gym shorts! Do they have potential ... yes ... do some of these guys need more work ... yes have red flags been raised on others ... yes. It's all part of the process!

its not the same as guys whose positions depend more on things like speed. NT's who have performed well at the combine have gone on to perform well in the pros.....you can't teach 6'5"/350 to go along with a 4.87/40 and 44 bench reps. I guy this big to put up those results has to have a solid desire. his abilities make him a very versatile player for the pats.

To play where? He doesn't fit the system so I'm thrilled he is doing well.

yeah, well...that was my original point......I don't think he even gets to the jets now.....

I just hope that this causes someone who stands to be very useful to the pats to get to #27 (ingram, cox)

LOL.....he sure as hell does fit the system......take your pick, he can play any spot on the DL short of the 4-3 DE

Re: * The 2012 Combine Drills!! *

Whitney Mercilus makes me want to be gay. what a body!

Not that there's anything (much) wrong with that.

However, I disagree w/ your take on players like Irvin who are considered one-down, one-trick ponies. Players like Irvin are now 2-down players; and the one trick they do, nobody on the Pats - NoBody - can do that trick at all.

If this kid is as much off an athletic freak as everyone says he is (I haven’t watched him at the combine) I’m sure BB can find something useful for him to do. Wilfork doesn’t fit the mold of a 3-4 DE yet in 2010 he played the position many times and at a high level.

Re: * The 2012 Combine Drills!! *

Poe can play the 3 tech DE and NT in a 3-4. We already have those positions covered though. The cog we're missing is the ever hard to find 5 tech DE.

he is an instant upgrade to anyone not named wilfork.

technically, the pats do have players at those positions, though
