I know it's not a popular take, but I agree with him.
Some of our fans are insufferable. I'm sorry, but it's true. The insecurity and insistent need to try and justify all of the teams accomplishments to other fans who will NEVER, EVER change their opinion of us, is (dare I say) embarrassing.
More of us need to have thicker skin and just enjoy the historic run that we are on. Don't let other people take even an OUNCE of joy out of it.
I know many of you are not old enough to remember the 90's and what it was like to be on the OTHER SIDE of this thing, routinely getting beat down by Kelly and Marino. I hated those guys worse than AIDS!!
I can only imagine how much other teams must despise Brady.
Ask yourself this..
How would you feel if Brady and Bill were on the Jets for the last 15 years?
I never considered Dan Marino a cheater, or even Shula. My level of respect for them, and Kelly, varied and fluctuated over the years, but especially after 1976, I never was interested in any other team being treated unfairly, whether I rooted for them or not.
How would I feel?
How
DO I feel, rooting for the Patriots for four decades, having a championship stolen and seeing other, hated, despised teams win the Super Bowl year after year after year. Like a football fan, and a Patriots fan. The media can live in their own litttle stupid world. In the days leading up to SBXLIX, the radio talk show idiots were all wailing on the air about 'deflategate'. I called in and said "Hey guys!!! Happy Super Bowl Week!! I'm happy this happened, because it's exposed all these people and former and current players and coaches and fans as the total morons they are!..."
I don't see anybody here attempting to justify the team's accomplishments. And, I don't hear any of us trying to changes morons' opinions. I certainly was never jealous of the Steelers, Cowboys, Raiders, Dolphins. I just wanted us to beat the crap out of them, and in this century, it's happened.
Maybe some fans are insufferable. But, those that complain about the NYJFL at least have a point, and are justified. Unlike the seemingly countless nonsensical diatribes of other teams (Raiders: Immaculate Reception was a correctly called, legal play, just like the Tuck Rule) including ridiculous accusations of nonexistent rule violations by the Patriots.
I found the Ninkovich suspension refreshing, in that Rob evidently really did something wrong.
What I found bothersome (and what I can't believe Al Michaels was able to put up with) was/is the media's and broadcasters legitimizing the thing. Were they going to fire Michaels if he said, "This whole thing sounds completely stupid." And, as it turned out, it was. Completely.
Thick skin? For sticks and stones, sure. For lost first round draft picks, $millions in fines and
a suspension? No, this is unfairly penalizing a team and putting them at a competitive disadvantage. Patriots fans cannot protest enough.
