I'm disappointed that Flores is burning BB. Looks to me like BB honestly thought Flores was getting the job, not Daboll: he started the thread with "Sounds like you have landed -- congrats!!". That only makes sense if he was addressing Flores, who was out of a job. Daboll didn't need to "land".

I was hoping BB would bring Flores back as DC and heir apparent. He's been the best of the direct BB tree. Looks like that won't happen now.

How many black men have the Patriots given the opportunity to be an OC a/o DC? Romeo Crennel. That's it. Flores isn't wrong. This isn't about Belichick but the entire NFL culture.

I agree, the texts make more sense read as him texting Flores and saying he misread a text from someone else, vs. him thinking he was texting Daboll all along. Though it's not perfect, since the "I hear from Buffalo and NYG that you're their guy" text seems sort of strange in that context. However, if you think that he thinks he's texting Daboll then the use of "landed" and "I misread the text" makes less sense.

Huh?
He thought he was texting Daboll, congratulating him. Once Flores corrected him, he said he F'ed up. There's no confusion about it. The fact some are trying to make it out that way is nonsense.

Even though BB says "I went back and read the text" before admitting he effed up? Sooner or later BB will have to expound on this and I'll take his word on it.

Belichick has hired/promoted 3 OC and 4 DCs.
1/7 14% was black. 12.4% of the population is black.

I mean, once he realizes it's Flores, he acknowledges he hears "they are naming Daboll" and apologizes . Not sure how clearer it can be.

For those that are saying that Daboll hadn't interviewed in person yet (he had a Zoom interview), it's even more damning since Bill already knew they were naming him anyway. Within 24 hours of Flores interview (that completed the Rooney process), they name Daboll.

Flores must've been crushed knowing the decision was already made and his interview was a sham, just like the Broncos one a few years earlier when they show up late and hung over.

I don't blame him, burn it all down. It's a disgrace.

I got you. It is damning that BB knew, but not for him. And that he had any part of the decision making is absurd. What multi-billion dollar entity would allow its competition to make anything more than a recommendation?

70% person of the NFL population is black. It's a disgrace.
NFL players are not the coaching pool. Pretending they are is a disgrace.

But the US population is? You're such a clown.

They're the pool of who is being coached. Their coaches should be representative, especially when there are many good, qualified candidates.

How Leftwich didn't get the job over Pederson is baffling. He's terrific and the way the players respond to him is exactly what that team needed. It's too bad they didn't, because I feel like he would have been great.

He also had Flores as the play caller/de facto DC. The same role he has had his own son in for three seasons.

Belichick has had very few coordinators, at all, in New England. If memory serves, he's only had 3 OCs (Weis/McDaniels/O'Brien) and 3 DCs (Crennel/Pees/Patricia).

So that's a non-issue.

He's also done that to keep the criticism away from those guys (including Flores), which is also something not a lot of people talk about.

Although I've said it before, the fact Flores didn't get hired before the lawsuit came out is baffling. He was one of the best available guys after the Dolphins screwed up and let him go and I was glad to see him leave the Division. But with the way the players had responded to him in the 3 seasons he was there (and his last one here), his success certainly speaks for itself. Definitely makes little sense.

That is kind of warped logic that prevents these kind of issues from being handled correctly.

Hiring a head coach should be based upon who is best for the job. The racial makeup of who is most talented at playing the game is not a factor in who is best at the job. (Although I’m sure your race baiting outlook would be that black coaches can relate to black players better, because in this case unlike other discrimination situations it supports you argument)
The pool of coach candidates is the pool of people who choose coaching football as a career.
So at the top of the funnel it is roughly people who play HS football. A person who is takented enough to progress as a player is not any more talented to coach which is yet another flaw in your argument.
Most coaches were not NFL players. That is because insgtad of building a college or pro playing career, they were building a coaching career, and are years ahead of players in that path.
No job should be filled based upon the color of a persons skin. And true discrimination is entirely unacceptable. But to pretend that coaching staffs should match the racial makeup of players is saying you need to discriminate against qualifications in favor of skin color and that is not only wrong but it actually gets in the way of progress where discrimination is happening.

A guy who doesn't have a history of winning, turns over his staff, doesn't get along with his QB, and doesn't play well with others, is a guy a lot of teams will pass over, or at least think twice about.

Just ask Josh McDaniels, in the immediate aftermath of his Denver gig.

Yea, but Flores wasn't the DC. His son was in there too. That's just Bill playing the promotion for 3rd round picks game when his guys get poached. I can't blame him for that.

FWIW, the coaching staff, using the same criteria as the article, is now 6/17 black, or ~35%.
