Pats now betting favorites to land Delvin Cook (Update: Odds "Pretty High" He Signs With Jets)

6m? LOL.

Try minimum 10m per year with at least 20m dollars guaranteed for a premium talent like Dalvin Cook. He's not gonna come cheap if he comes at all.

"According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, Cook is seeking somewhere in the ballpark of $10.4 million as opposed to the $5 million he was due to make with the Vikings before they cut him."

Source Article.

I haven't heard any news of the Patriots even making a contract offer to Dalvin Cook.

I like the idea but I doubt that it happens.

I think it's kind of shameful that the Patriots would pay an inconsistent player like Parker 11 million per year but would be unlikely to pay a potential instant impact on the field like Cook 10m per year. But I guess that's how the market works right now.

That’s fine, let him walk. The RB market has been overpriced since advent of free agency. He can be “seeking” whatever he wants but key here is Vikings didn’t even want him at $5M.

On a related note, I just took my dog for a walk and his brother, Delvin Cook, happened to be handing out homemade pasta dinners to the homeless and playing a free cello concert asking for donations to benefit autistic children. We need more heroes like this.

The patriots are not signing Dalvin Cook. Its click bait. It is not a BB like move
Lets move on to next meritless dumb rumor

What about his brother Delvin? I see him as a major part of the Patriots organization, perhaps in some sort of public relations role.

This thread title got me all excited and it turns out you all want to sign that dirtbag Dalvin.

OK then, how about who's Eliot Wolf taking with our top-10 pick in next year's draft, a QB or LT?

Because without out another play-making runner/receiver for Mac, expect a lot of 24-20 losses this season.
If the Patriots allow 24PPG with this defense, they'll be a 3-win team at most.

(They haven't given up that many points per game since 1991)

Parker is guaranteed less than $5M a year and can make $11M with incentives, but that will never happen. When RBs output falls significantly without any injury, they continue to fall and it gets ugly fast. Cook is toast. Career over. Remember Steven Jackson?

Parker at $5 to $6M a year is much better money spent than a big name RB already in decline.

Thanks; and yeah there'll be games where the defense holds the opponents to 13 or fewer points, and others where the offense scores 27 or more...
But I still see too many one-score games in our future and I'm also still not convinced that Mac has, either inside his huddle or inside his head, what it takes to win the majority of them...

I man can dream, can't he?
He sure can. It’s going to take something extreme for Bob to pull the plug like finishing in last place, less than 2 division wins, a losing record, continuing to lose to teams .500 and above and bad game situational plays (WR’a lateraling to QB’s).

Just saw a link on PFT that noted that the Pats have now become the betting favorites to sign Delvin Cook. It's neither here nor there, but I would like to come out in FULL favor of that idea. Not sure that's going to happen, for a lot of reasons, but IMHO adding Cook could have a more meaningful impact to the offense than a Hopkins signing and at just 2/3rds of the cost.

I think that while Hopkins is a very good receiver, he isn't an "explosive" one. Cooks is the very definition of an explosive player. Every time he touches the ball there is an opportunity for a "big play" (20+yds). I think we can ALL agree that this offense needs to be more explosive. There are other pluses as well. Lets list them

1. It would give the Pats two "#1 type RB's. It is a LONG season and you don't want to have the focus of your offense wearing down or dealing with injuries. Like it or not, we are going to be running the ball at least 45% of the time.

2. Position flexibility. Cook is a guy who can line up in the slot AND wide as well as in the backfield. It would be a lot more difficult to predict pass or run by our personnel groupings. BTW- there was a time when having 2 RB's in the backfield was the norm. It can give a defense a LOT of trouble with deceptive looks, especially if you QB is a good ball handler

3. You add depth to a position that uses up players

4. We've had a chance now to see what NOT having a good 3rd down back is like for a couple of seasons and it hasn't been pretty. Cooks is James White who can actually tote the rock at a high level. Very good hands and route running ability and a threat to break one every time he touches the ball. Have I mentioned "explosiveness" yet?

5. While 10 touches in a game would be a busy one for Hopkins. 15 touches/game for Cook would be routine and not cut into Rham's productivity. Just on touches alone Cooks would be more impactful.

6. AT 27, Cook is at the peak of his talents, not a guy on the wrong side of 30 hoping for one more good year

About the ONLY argument for not signing Cooks is that you HOPE you can get the same kind of explosiveness from Pierre Strong at a tenth the cost. But why bet on a "hope" when you can have a sure thing at a time where you can afford it.

When it was thought Alvin Kamara was on the trade block, I was all in on that for all the reasons listed here. Now we can grab a similar talent without giving up a single draft asset.

Given the cap space they have I’m all for it, especially since there is very little chance a LT of that caliber will come free this summer. Might as well put the strongest team possible out there. They need to give Jones all the help they can so they can determine whether he can get it done or not. Last season simply wasn’t a fair opportunity to show whether he’s got what it takes or not. Brady could have gotten them to the playoffs, but that’s because he could have told Patricia and Judge to pound sand.

Disagree with your analogy. Jackson had played 13 seasons, Cook has played 6. I don’t disagree that players can fall off quickly, but I don’t think he’s at that stage yet.

The data I saw based on last year's performance said that he is falling off and that is why the Vikings released him. I will try to find the article.

Maybe, but the band-aid's gotta be pulled sooner or later... Where we are now ain't gonna heal itself...

Just got back from the hospital. I had a motorcycle accident this morning but luckily Delvin Cook gave me his lung and kidney (he had them removed in 2019 just in case someone needed them).

I asked him about his brother signing with the Pats. He texted Dalvin and got this response: “fuk show gonna git paid by suckas and fuk y’all ***** assez.”

I’ll text more later after I finish the organic pasta dinner Delvin is cooking for us. It smells great. He’s teaching my daughter Latin.

Something like 75% of all NFL games are 1-score games. What's "too many 1-score games'?

I don't even really know what this means. Questions about Mac Jones are reasonable, I certainly have them too.

This defense is still one of the best in the league. Last year the offense came up short a couple of times, that would have made them a playoff team, but they also won games *because* of that defense. I don't know if simply putting Bill O'Brien in place is going to change much - he was responsible for the 'drive to nowhere' playoff game, after all.

We won't know if it's better until they put pads on. I'll save the doomposting for after that.

So "one score" games are almost random or coin flips. If a team is living off of one score games and get say, 12 wins. They're almost 100% going to regress the next year. Basically getting lucky in those games. Two score games are more telling.

Yep; and I'd be surprised if the 2023 Vikings don't suffer the same fate.

Idc ab anyone except like 4-5 people. This is from "the book of Justis 316"

"Close games are important. They can decide if you are in or out of the postseason. With that being said, a team’s record in decisive games is a much better number to use for projecting what teams will do in the future than their overall record."

"If you took a time machine back to 2006, you could go 39-2-1 predicting that unsustainably good close game records would lead to an immediate drop-off and unsustainably bad close game records would lead to an immediate rise. The NFL devours itself through its parity machine (outside of quarterback play and head coaches), but three or four teams a year become easy reads because of how they performed in close games the year prior. When the process is right 94 percent of the time, you take it for its word."

"When applied to college football, this logic also holds up. Over the last decade, Alabama, Boise State, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Wisconsin have combined to post an FBS best 457-48 record in decisive games. Collectively, they have gone just 97-71 in close games, a win percentage of just 58 percent. This means that even the best of the best, the programs which blow teams out the most while also avoid being blown out, barely have any significant ability to win single-score games over a large period of time. Truthfully, the ability to win close games is more of a myth than a tangible trait.

The team with the best close game win percentage over the last decade? Ole Dominion with an 11-4 record. Wyoming (30-17) ranks eighth and Louisiana-Lafayette (26-15) ranks ninth. Close game numbers are mostly bunk. The truth is, no matter how important we anecdotally claim winning close games is, 1) winning close games is not nearly as stable year to year as winning decisive games is and 2) the vast majority of wins at the FBS level come from decisive games."

I’m surprised not one person has brought up his situation with his girlfriend.

Signing him would be hypocritical of the Pats and some fans.
Hypocritical because the organization is the "best at respecting women"? (Credit to Kontra for coining that or something similar).
