Player Signing Pats add QB Matt Corral

Right, my concern is mainly his accuracy. But if they work on that with him, he’d probably be a fine back up. It’s just watching how long they keep Zappe on the roster to tell us when they’re comfortable with Corral being QB2.
That QB school video posted above shows some mediocre footwork. Wouldn’t be surprising that if he gets that improved accuracy will improve. I’m just afraid it won’t happen until next off season, so we’ll be stuck with Zappe as QB2 unless Bill signs some other QB.

BOB is a maniac, I wouldn't be shocked if it puts in extra time just to work with Corral on the little details.

Honestly, I think the Corral claim says more about Malik Cunningham than Bailey Zappe.

Nah. BOB is hoping to see Corral as QB2 if/when he can get him up to speed, that was the point of signing him. Until then Zappe will back up Mac but his hold on that role is tenuous.

Agreed. BoB has already moved on from Zappe. If Corral isn't the next QB2 then they'll look somewhere else.

Does he possess Cat like quickness???
From what I have seen, yes...but he will get killed if thinks he can run out of the pocket like that in the NFL. He has good arms strength and is sometime very accurate. The one drawback I saw was that he bird-dogs the intended receiver. Mac is not going to lose any sleep about this guy...but he seems way better than Zappe. He definitely appears a lot taller than Zappe and should not have Zappe's issue with blocked passes, but I worry a bit about his accuracy.

Corral is a blank slate at this stage of his NFL career, it's too early to assess what he might bring to the table. He missed all of his rookie season and reportedly got hardly any practice reps in Carolina's camp as the third guy. He played some in the preseason and showed he has much to work on, starting with his footwork and timing. That was as expected. BOB has a challenge bringing him up to speed along with managing everything else offensively.

I'll bet the Panthers figured they would "pull a Zappe" putting Corral on waivers toward getting him back on their practice squad and it backfired. With time and attention he could turn into something, from what I've seen it's remarkable how much his skill set resembles the Jete's Punky McMilfson. He even has a chip on his shoulder, reportedly.

i.e. cutting a player giving the entire NFL the chance to claim or if unclaimed lure to their PS and when nobody does either you take him back and say that was the plan all along i.e. checkers/chess etc. Yup.

What does QB2 have to do with gadget play WRs?

Or if Mac isn’t QB1 after all they are keeping their eyes on Corral’s development.

Corral’s role is to push Mac for the starting job. Corral is the new Zappe, a guy who is there to make Mac sweat if comes out and plays poorly. This isn’t a situation of a reliable old hand who knows their role as the backup.

I liked Corral prior to the draft. Though I wasn’t expecting the Pats to draft a QB in the 2022 draft, since they had just drafted Mac Jones in the 1st round in the 2021 draft. Corral has a good arm, and good running skills. I like his fiery leadership and toughness as well. Is he good enough to be a starting QB ? I think Carolina thought so when they drafted him, but we shall see.

That being said, I am scouting college QBs eligible for the 2024 draft in the event Mac isn’t able to elevate his game this year.

If they had “moved on from Zappe“ then he wouldn’t be on the practice squad.
