Interesting BB nuggets from Rapoport

Vrabel Obrein and Mcdaniels would be a great coaching staff.
McDonald and Mcdaniels great coaching staff.
Harbaugh and Mayo great coaching staff.
Mayo and Mcdaniels/Obrein solid coaching staff.
Ben Johnson and Mayo great coaching staff.
Frank Smith and Wes Welker both deserve interviews.
Joe Brady deserves a interview
Jason Vrable deserves a interview
Kevin Patullo deserves a interview
Bobby Slowik deserves a interview
Alex Van Pelt deserves a interview
Brian Callahan deserves a interview
Brian Johnson deserves a interview

I want to see some innovative young minds on the 2024 Patriots coaching staff.
I’m reading Harbaugh and the Chargers have been getting cozy….

edit: ****….did I read that here? I don’t even know anymore

I think Josh gets too much hate still, but I don’t know why you’d dump Bill to replace him with Josh. Doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. Josh makes sense as a “Bill retired” replacement, not a “we retired Bill” replacement.

I just don’t think he’s a head coach. I think he’s proven he’s a really good OC, but not an NFL head coach. However he could be a college HC.

NOT a head coach and whoever even suggests that are oblivious to the disaster in DEN and Vegas. No and no….

Kraft is not as hands off as he lets on at the QB position. My recollection is that Kraft forced the trade of Jimmy G,
Because Jimmy was mouthing off that the Pats were his team now. Brady went to Kraft to complain. Only then did Kraft become involved.

Getting rid of Jimmy and keeping Brady was the correct call.

was involved when TB12 left
Yes, he wanted Brady to stay or retire a Patriot.

Correct call again. Brady never should have left Boston. Bobby Orr all over again.
and had some role in drafting/playing Mac.
Unconfirmed.
If Kraft really did force the Mac situation I could see him giving BB a shot at righting the ship with the next guy.
Youre not even sure if Kraft was involved with Corky or not.

Any QB could use a WR on pace for 1k yards.

This idea that QBs should be saddled with average talent and “prove themselves” before getting any weapons is so against how the league operates

And why pretend like Mac got bad in a bubble? Maybe he never develops isn’t I the guy. And I think he would not have considering how clear he gets skittish under pressure.

But no one can say the patriots did everything possible to make it conducive for a young qb to thrive
Mac is Nathan Peterman bad

McVay is still laughing at the Cole Strange pick.

From the moment he said this until the middle of this season, Sean McVay had a worse record than Bill Belchick.

Mac is Nathan Peterman bad

Is anyone denying that right now?

You are just deflecting because you know Bill screwed up. Deandre Hopkins had a 1k yard season and we could’ve easily had him. But bill played lowball for no reason. Reports said patriots weren’t even close. And it’s not like the patriots had more to offer as a team than the titans to act that arrogant in their offer.

And meyers put up a good season too. I don’t see how those 2 could not have helped the offense in place of juju/parker

Flores was decent as a HC and would be able to take advantage of this teams defensive personnel as well as anyone not named Belichick or Mayo.

I'm still team Bill though.
Flores, NO!!

Is anyone denying that right now?

Not with noodle arm Corky.

Corky cannot challenge DBs throwing in single coverage. Dhop would dry up in NE because defenses would just double him.

Dhop sure turned the Titans into winners.

1 whole additional wim than the Pats.

Corky is a 32nd ranked offense QB.

I for one am glad the Pats didn’t spend money on Hopkins.

He is a mercenary at this point, and would have possibly made the Pats pick worse, while offering minimal record improvement.

I can understand Flores being upset that Belichick left a congratulations message to Daboll on his phone. But can also understand how Belichick could make that mistake.
Ditto. Unfortunate series of events with two dudes named Brian made by an old guy with a phone.

I don't think I've changed my position from the start.

"You're just deflecting because you know Bill screwed up."

Should I link to my post the second week of the season or what?

I've said all along that with a halfway decent QB this team is competing for a playoff spot tomorrow.

It doesn't matter what decision was made, the point is that Kraft has involved himself in the QB position. There is enough smoke to assume that Kraft was involved in the decisions around Mac. I wish I was as wired in as you with the inside information on all the above. No doubt Kraft and BB have a long list of things that only they are aware of. Things will only become clear next Monday.

For spending too many resources on offense? 16-11. Most FAs were offense.
Those numbers are meaningless.
2020 draft: First 3 picks are defense
2021 draft: Two of the first 3 are defense anf the offense is the bust Mack Jones
2022 draft: Two of the first 3 are offense includingoverdrafted Strange and bust Thornton
2023 draft: First there are all defense.
The majority of FAs being offense means they don’t draft well on offense and need free agents to fill out a 52 man roster

These big star expensive WRs are nice.

When they are healthy and avaliable to play. Justin Jefferson was out most of the season.

McVay is still laughing at the Cole Strange pick.

In 2022 the Rams didn’t have either a 1st or 2nd round pick. Their first pick came in the 3rd round, they took a guard. In 2023 the Rams did t have a 1st round pick. Their first pick came in the 2nd round, they took a guard. Clearly they don’t think taking a guard is a waste of draft capital.

Sure, keeping beating that false drum that the rest of the league viewed him as a 3rd and 4th round pick. there have been numerous reports dating back to the days after the draft that multiple other teams are interested in him in the 2nd round. These were not reporters who bend over backwards to protect Bill.

In fact, Tom Curran, who has not been at all shy about criticizing Bill’s personal decisions, said on his podcast that he recently talked to an player personnel executive from another team, and he quotes executive as saying “We really liked him. We were looking at him in the second round.”

It’s a shame that Strange had so many issues with his knee this year, because if he had been healthy, I think he would have solidified his status as a quality starter at left guard. He has already shown himself to be a very good NFL run blocker, but needs work as a pass protector. I think it will come out that he was more limited by the knee this year, even when he was playing, than we fans realized. Curran made reference to that earlier in the season. He still needs to keep getting stronger, particularly his lower body.

Does this mean that Strange was a good pick the late first? No. I agree with the consensus that they should have targeted a different position. Also, an OG needs to be an elite level player for his position, if he wants to justify being picked in that spot (see Mankins, Logan). Strange has the athleticism (including an elite first step), and the aggressiveness to be a top 10 guard but he’s got a long way to go before being placed in that category and he may never reach that level.

He was probably overdrafted by 10 to 15 picks, but to regurgitate that overused clip and use it as definitive evidence that he was wildly overdrafted and wasn’t going to be picked by any other team until the late third or even the fourth round is agenda-driven, not based in reality….par for the course here, so at least you’re in good company.
