DRAFT 2024 2nd Round Pick - WR Ja'Lynn Polk

I think we could have done FAR better with this pick. Why pick a WR who is by every empirical measure clearly mediocre at best when your obvious first need is an OT and there were clearly better options available anyway at WR? This is the sort of play-safe crap you get when you hire a bunch of sweet-talking "collaborators" rather than hard-headed football evaluators. Then, by the time they got around to picking an OT, they picked a RIGHT tackle rather than the left tackle they clearly need.

I am content with the Maye pick (with fingers crossed), but beyond that the draft to this point screams Bust.

I think we all wanted a wr1 and felt maybe mcconkey or AM we're those. When you take a wr 2 or wr3 to replace bourne or juju , it just doesn't move the needle.

And similarly we wanted to trade upbto get guyton or the OT that chiefs drafted . Instead we just stay put and move up to 4th round when all difference makers are essentially done.

Drafting players outside their natural position is not really working for us .

Maybe next year is when they actually sign an elite free agent wide receiver and draft a top pick at OT .

Considering we might not be extending strange , better to look for his replacement or understudy this season.

Any good vornerbacks left who can convert to free safety ?

The truth is if any of the TV and internet jabronis whose player takes you all treat as gospel actually knew anything, they'd have a real job doing it.

You don't know who will or won't bust. You don't kmow who was taken too high or too low. It's all posing and jerking off.

Polk was +300 to go in round 1 & was higher than Coleman. He was projected to go in mid-round 2 & was the best receiver available after Mitchell & McConkey IMO. Mitchell was clearly falling for other reasons & McConkey is a similar player projecting as more a WR2. Considering his injury history I get why they passed on him.

I like that Polk compliments Douglas well. In Douglas you have the quick slot WR that separates vs. man & was top 5 in the NFL in YAC. Polk is a reliable WR that can line up anywhere & can move the chains. I like the Malcolm Mitchell comp. He’s dependable & that’s something the pats lacked last year as they were playing non-NFL caliber WRs in Thornton, Reagor & Juju.

WR1: 2025 via trade
WR2: Douglas
WR3: Polk

The pats hopefully have their WR2 & WR3 already. A WR1 will complete their offense in the future.

I disagree here. 1 round reach which is tough to argue over. I had a solid 3rd, we had a solid 2nd. I'm not seeing a huge reach. If anything Wallace was a much bigger reach imo. I had him as a late round pick. No real experience at any other position besides RT. That's a decent reach imo.

Polk shined and produced 1K/10 TD with a legit top 10 and 75 pick beside him.
Tough blocker that made several noticeable quality blocks for his boys at UW. Coaches he's love him bc of his attitude and effort. Very intelligent prospect imo. Very coachable. Some of the best hands in the class. Very comfortable making circus catches look easy. Lots of confidence there.
Our slot & z really overlap, you need to be avl to do both and thats exactly what he does. Move around based on the defense and play to his strengths. He's not extremely well rounded but what he does he does very well.

We absolutely still need a true #1 but Polk has the chance to be a quality/rotation - WR3. Possibly low-end WR2 some years if he hits his ceiling. I don't hate this pick and again Wallace needs to workout. Wolf took a big swing there.

Just from the highlights iirc I only saw 1 end around, 1 wr screen, 1 over mid-depth middle; 0 slants; and ALL the rest 20-30 catches were deep periphery catches.

When people throw around term #1 (which I dislike); I generally think it’s that deep periphery skill set they ‚really’ talking about.

I’m hoping he’s more that ‚all-around‘ receiver the analysis guys were sayin;
…. but from the highlight reel I just didn’t see a lot of catching touch passes, screens short-range stuff or even seam routes that would show that all-around

But kindof not getting the he is not a #1 complaint.

Don't know anything about him.

Heard it was a reach taking him at 37.

At this point, don't care if it was a reach as long as he produces.

I think we all wanted a wr1 and felt maybe mcconkey or AM we're those.
McConkey is not a #1 receiver and Mitchell didn't go until pick 52 because of all the issues associated with him, so all the other teams didn't want him either.

The *****ing ridiculous.

Fans: we need a WR.
Pats pick a receiver in R2.
Fans: NO NOT THAT GUY.
Some people love to live in misery.

Can't say I scouted the WR's like the 100's of hours spent on QB's but it seems they got a guy with a high floor. General consensus is he'll be a #2/3 receiver in the NFL for a decade. He looks like a baller. Hopefully he reaches his upside with the Chris Godwin comps.

They are building a roster and having a solid contributor/likely starter that will stick is a good pick. Until we see if any of the WR's that went in round 2 from 34 on become a #1 receiver can't say it is a bad pick.

Nakua ran a 4.57 forty, he does alright. Polk has topped 20 mph at his top speed so he has enough speed, he'll be a zone buster and now with a QB that can actually run, Pats will see more zone than man, he fits the system.

I like they went offense and offense, even if the lineman was a bit of a reach, after the run on tackles they needed to get the best they had on their board. These 2 picks are where they needed the most help, I hope they got it right.

I think people think anyone running a 4.5 is N' Keal Harry and anyone running near 4.3 is Tyquan Thornton. PTSD with some Patriot fans.

I agree, they just want to be unhappy. I would have preferred Mitchell, but I’m good with Polk.

Yup.

There were 7 WR's taken already just in the first round and the Bills just picked the 8th. We were way past the point of getting a bonafied WR1. That doesn't mean one of these guys couldn't emerge as one. Plenty of second round WR's and later became huge gamebreakers. But we were not getting a guy who was an out of this world and flawless prospect anymore.

Mitchell fell so people clearly didn't view him the way most of this site did. McConkey or Polk and the trade down were the only real discussions. They probably viewed McConkey and Polk similarly and were okay with either.

sure

We all were wondering which of the Washington WR's we'd get. He'll be fine, but I would have preferred picking a corner instead.

Not me. There were a number of other players I would have been happy with that pick, but getting a WR who makes all the toughest catches is something they desperately needed. I have seen more dropped passes the past couple of seasons than in Brady’s entire careeer. They need receivers who will move the chains reliably.

Close enough to edelman ... we did not draft Pickens because of on field issues . We got a great character guy with thornton . It's working amazing for us.

That's the beer goggles on McConkey that is putting him up high on draft boards. I don't think he's going to be a starter in the NFL.

Had 5 catches for 122 yards and a td catch vs Texas. Just saying.

Hoping for the best with him. He had Penix throwing him the ball who was probably the best QB throwing those types of catchable contested passes. Also had Odunze who's tilted coverage his way.

Mconkey should have been a better fit. He could play outside and slot, faster and better change of direction, plus went up against SEC DBs.

Troy Brown says Bingo.

The pick at 34 should've been either Adorable Adrian Adonai Mitchell or the King himself, Kingsley Suamataia. Period.

All this ****ing idiotic ****ing ****y **** from the last two days screams Al Groh's Kid & the other left-over Stevie Cargrille.

Meet the New boss; same as the Old boss.

D for the Polk pick; D ****ing Minus for the Wallace pick.

I would note that Bourne is our #4 next year, or earlier if we trade earlier.
