The personal feelings angle is nonsense. Nobody disrespected Belichick more than Ty Law, yet Ty was brought back for another few years and all was forgotten. How about Asante Samuel? He was brought back.....Personal feelings is an excuse that fans use to justify the loss of their favorite player when the coach decides he is too old and limited in what he can do to spend more than 6 million a year on him.

Ok fair enough but indulge me as I note that accusing fans of worshipping players is often used by those who'll blindly march lock step with every decision BB makes. You're 100% right about Law but if it was just about money how can you explain giving more money to the oft injured and not as productive Amendola? I don't think it's non sense...agree to disagree.
BTW I simply go by what I've seen on the field. Good luck if you think the china doll will be nearly as duarble or replicate the 100+ catches.
Ryan Swope:
6' 206 pounds 4.34 forty 22 years old
Danny Amendola:
5'11 188 pounds 27 years old
I don't know. We'll see, but I feel that would of been the better, cheaper way if we were going the unproven route.
I hope that Danny doesn't come close to 100 catches. The Patriots offense needs to change. Besides that, past performance is not always indicative of future production. Welker is 32 years old, he has taken 100s of giant hits, how much longer can he keep that up?
Amendola may get hurt in TC, he may never even see the field...but, the guy has unmistakable talent, he is more of a vertical threat, and he has something that Welker cannot replicate, youth.

Respectfully Amendola has yet to replicate Welker's durability. Durability trumps age. I'd rather have an older vet producing on the field than a "better/younger" player on PUP or IR.
Sam Bradford had a great rookie season, but it would have been mediocre if he was a veteran. He was decent last year.
Amadola is a better receiver right now than Welker was when he came here. Doesn't mean he will be 1/10th the player Welker was in a Pats' uniform. Doesn't mean he can't be just as good or better. To declare him a horrible addition at this point though is way premature.
I would have rather paid Welker just because he is a known successful commodity, but Amadola has the tools to be a special player in this offense as long as he can stay healthy. A problem he had a lot in his career thus far.
Durability certainly does not trump age, you cannot outrun father time.
There is a disconnect for Patriots fans, maybe because we are too close to the situation or we are too enthralled by the basic numbers. On the one hand we see this reliable receiver who consistently puts up big catch and yardage numbers and is a third down conversion machine. You look at the numbers and they are consistently at the top of the league.
So what is the disconnect? The value that the rest of the league places on him. Some fans of this team viewed Welker, based on his production, as valuable as Fitzgerald and Johnson and way above a Wallace or a Harvin. Apparently the rest of the league didn't think so. It comes as a shock to me as well but the proof is in the contract numbers.
This isn't a case of picking the player over BB, or vica versa. Its a case of our perceived value of the player versus his actual value to 32 NFL teams.
Bob Kraft does not make the personnel decisions for the New England Patriots team.
C'mon, it's been over a decade since his son Drew lost his QB job.
I never said it was an awful signing but WW 2/12 or DA 5/31 is a no brainer to me given WW success in this offense and the fact that he misses next to no playing time and DA's glass like career coupled with who knows what the Brady chemistry will be. If he does suck McDaniels should never be allowed to pick the groceries again, ever.
I like Danny but as far as I'm concerned, WR has now become a major "need" in the draft. Patriots need insurance options, and good ones.
