Behind the Scenes of SB Field Condition

Thanks for the link (and the memories), but if I'm reading the rules correctly, it looks like the deadline to remove the tarp is 90 minutes, so it sounds like they were correctly following the rules... just a little earlier.

2 hours: The visitor’s half of the field must be clear at least 120 minutes prior to kickoff, unless the field is tarped in accordance with league rules.
90 minutes: The grounds crew must have the tarp completely removed from the field if the field was covered due to precipitation. If the stadium has a retractable roof and/or wall, the home club notifies the referee or on-site NFL Football Operations representative whether the roof and/or wall will be open or closed during the game. An open roof or wall can be closed after this point only under certain conditions, including precipitation or if hazardous conditions, such as lightning, endanger people in the stadium.

Well, it sounded like they removed the tarp a little earlier than the 90 minutes. That could be 30 minutes or 1 hour. I don' t know. That's what I took from AV's quote.

That rule sounds like it specifies the latest it can be removed, not the earliest. This is a nothingburger, as most "Cheatriots!" stuff is.

Tom put the whole idea that he only wins b/c of cheating to rest in SB 49.
Put it to bed in SB 51.
Kicked it out of bed and buried it in SB 55.

No, the rules say 90 minutes. It doesn't say "at least" 90 minutes beforehand. Everything in that link Jim Beankie provided indicates that the NFL scripts the pregame preparations to the minute. There is a reason why the NFL doesn't want the tarp removed too early as it is going to muddy the field if it's rain or cause too much snow to accumulate on the ground. Bill took it off early. It is what it is. DId it have an affect on the game? Probably not, but let's not paint Bill as this guy who follows to the rules all the time.

Him winning those SBs says nothing about SBs 36, 38 and 39.

So the supposed cheating in SB 36 (long ago debunked) was that the Pats filmed the Rams walkthrough. The Rams walkthrough involved red zone plays. The only time the Rams got into the red zone they scored. Next.

The Pats got to SB 38 thanks to stomping on the Colts in the AFCCG. The defense largely shut down Manning. Please explain how the infraction in Spygate (taping DEFENSIVE signals) contributed to that beatdown.

The following year they kept the record-setting Colts offense out of the end zone in the AFC Divisional enroute to SB 39. Again, explain that in terms of Spygate.

I'll wait.

This is just poor reading comprehension, even for you:

2 hours: The visitor’s half of the field must be clear at least 120 minutes prior to kickoff, unless the field is tarped in accordance with league rules.
90 minutes: The grounds crew must have the tarp completely removed from the field if the field was covered due to precipitation.

DId you miss the part that says "unless the field is tarped in accordance with league rules?"
No that just changed the timing. Does it say 90 minutes and not a minute more? The prior entry emphasizes not removing it late.

You don't get it TBF. The groundskeepers for the games are actually Jeannie or Samantha Stevens, and all they have to do is wiggle their nose or blink, and the tarp disappears in a quarter of a second. That's how they remove it at exactly the 90 minute mark, even though supposedly they're not supposed to remove it earlier than 90min nor later than 90min.

be careful with the " what the rules say" commentary... The Snow Bowl was literally 20 years ago... unless you have access to the nfl operational manual from the 2001 season, how do we know what the rules stated regarding tarps... we literally have no clue what rule changes have or haven't been made during the intervening decades...

that was a ****ty field... they needed a slippery when wet sign posted at the end of the locker room tunnels...

reading on barstool that the iggles slipped 38% of the time on mahomes drop backs versus 14% for the cheefs on the Hurts drop backs... thats a significant difference between the two...

so much so, you gotta wonder if some one tipped the cheefs off on the potential field conditions...
The Eagles allegedly changed cleats at half time. Prior to halftime, the Chiefs had the ball for 8 minutes and scored 7 offensive points. They were down 10 at the half. So maybe the Eagles equipment people suck.

Maybe... But its significantly more fun to insinuate that the cheefs were cheating, so I will go with that

The tarp had nothing to do with the outcome of this game. 0%.

Did you see that brilliant OT game-winning drive by Brady. Put that one the Patriots HOF too. A perfect 8 for 8 in a blizzard. GOAT!

you people sound like the same dimwits who say NE won SB 36 because of the Tuck Rule…

They also failed to flag Matthieu for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Smith on the first drive. We can do this all day. Your boy won. Try not to be a sore winner.
Mathieu is not a Chief. Which is probably further proof of a conspiracy I suppose.
