I think the Bills got a steal, notwithstanding that huge contract. He's coming off a big down year but that year was a disaster for the whole team, and there were a lot of problems at QB, especially in the beginning with Freeman. Not like the Bills situation is much better, but Williams started his career with 3 basically identical 65ish catch seasons and is just one year removed from that. He won't be elite, he never has been, but he'll be a good #2 or a solid #1.
I'd consider the addition of Williams to be akin to us adding LaFell.
LaFell is a better blocker, Williams has better hands, but both are possession guys with size who run routes well. They're comparable level of players. LaFell is a model citizen and by all reports a good locker room guy, though, and Williams has had some off the field issues dating back to Syracuse.
He is being reunited with his college coach and going back to his hometown, so maybe the change of scenery will do him some good. He's a good third guy to go along with Stevie and Robert Woods, who really impressed me last year.
Who is their qb?
Buffalo Bills, Doug Marrone give Mike Williams second chance - ESPNESPN.com's Mike Rodak believes Stevie Johnson's roster spot is in jeopardy.
Coming off an injury-riddled 2013, Johnson is set to count $8.5 million against the cap. He's a candidate to be released following Buffalo's trade for Mike Williams, with second-year receivers Robert Woods and Marquise Goodwin both capable of taking on expanded roles. Because releasing Johnson carries $8.475 million in dead money, he could be asked to take a pay cut. If the Bills ultimately decide to move on from Johnson, they would free up just $25,000 in cap space.
Yup more likely they'll just keep him and eat the 8 doubt he'll restructure his contract or another team will be willing to take that on.They are MORONS to release him for $25K - but if they do - who else can we release to sign this guy?
To me he has been a jag who caught passes because there was little else on the roster to throw to.
Classic case of a guy who produces above his talent level out of need in one place and never produces anywhere else. There have been dozens of these guys over the years.
Don't see how he's a Jag besides the fact that he played in Florida as well but he's pretty talented just an idiot. To me he has been a jag who caught passes because there was little else on the roster to throw to.
