Actually, it does suggest we may go the vet backup route over a draft pick.
This must be to get back at the Broncos for signing a former Pat
No. It merely means Kevin O'Connel is NOT ready to be the primary backup...
I was a getting ready to post a new thread, asking who among the veteran QBs that the Pats might sign as the vet backup to Brady.
I wouldn't call Ramsey a veteran QB, more like a 1st round bust who hung on as a JAG backup.
Now we're on to something. I wonder if N.O. would trade him.Brunell
He really wasn't horrible in Washington. Got thrown to the wolves a early and was ruined by Spurrier (sacked a lot), and then was replaced by Brunell as he was Gibbs's guy the second he got even a minor injury (second game). If you think David Carr was mismanaged, Patrick Ramsey is like the classic case. He has plenty of talent and has turned into a journeyman. You could do worse for a backup.
Cassel didn't earn the primary backup role until his third year. Before that, the Patriots had Flutie in 2005, and Testaverde in 2006. It wouldn't be abnormal for O'Connell to be the third quarterback this year, though I honestly suspect that he'll be the #2.
