Drafting Mallet means the Matt Cassel experiement is on again~~~~

Isn't this more of a "Kevin O'Connell" type of experiment than a Cassel experiment? Cassel was a throw away pick. This is a third rounder much like KOC was.

How many of these guys will be on the team in 2 years?

I can already see Stevan Ridley off the team within 2 years. Mallett maybe as well.

with no picks in the 3rd or the 4th, the RB choice seems worse to me. We should have gotten another WR.

Mankins and connoly are the starting guards

Warren comes back as starting DE

only thing i agree with you on is OLB... Have you made one post which isn't a complaint in this entire draft?

I liked the Mallett pick!

I just find it hard to believe that Ridley wouldn't have been around for at least 3 more rounds. Time to face the facts--BB HATES this DL/OLB class.

calm down kids,
1. pass rush sucked because we had one CB all year. it's hard to have one of those when the other CB just has to look away from mcourty and throw. Bodden will be back and the new kid might spend half the year or so uninjured. So that will automatically get better.
2. BJGE is a very good backup, yes i said backup. Morris, Taylor and faulk are all 34, which is *ancient* for a nfl RB. Drafting some RB's wasnt optional.
3. TFB is 34, do you all think he's going to be TFB until he's 44? Mallet can sit on the bench and learn how to play on the field and not be a ****** off the field from the best for a few years. Kid is not a bad quarterback.

What???? So the other teams consistently had 8 seconds to throw because we only had 1 good corner. Apparently I need to stop watching football.

The Ridley pick is eerily reminiscent to me of the 2006 Draft when the Pats picked TE David Thomas in Round 3 and TE Garrett Mills in Round 4. That draft sucked.

Best players according to who, Mel Kiper, and Todd McShay? I'm pretty confident BB selected the best players according to him.

That's what I'm afraid of.
Belichick is a HOF coach NOT a HOF draft specialist.

I am just glad I only did 1 mock this year ... next year I am cutting back to none.

didn't the pats get better when they put bledsoe on the bench?

The difference is that Bledsoe had to start right away and learned some bad habits along the way that Parcels evidently couldn't correct. Mallet has the luxury of being able to learn behind the best QB and a coach that is a perfectionist. I'm hoping the guy has the patience to sit and bide his time while he learns.

I'm gonna get behind the pick because he is a Patriot now. For better or worse. He could be the heir apparent but it's gonna take time and patience by the fans to get on board.

Before I go

News Flash
The Pats jsut traded all there 2012 draft picks to purchase

The Boston Bruins ....

the team will be completely retooled with bill Belicheck and Cam neely running the show...

Ryan mallet and NAte Solder will be strating on the powerplay

Now I feel better

This draft really tests our faith in BB. Love him to death, but this draft leaves me shaking my head. Just seems we reached on these picks, and are just building depth. Not what I expected with the firepower we had. I do like the Mallett pick, unlike many here.

It's a head scratcher, that's for sure. Like the first 3 picks and the Mallett pick, but a DL would have been great somewhere in there. LB class was weak, so not surprised there.

The other thing is I'm surprised that if they were going offense, why they wouldn't go WR instead of RB. Woodhead and BJGE were just fine last year. How many more years does Branch have? How much longer is Welker going to be effective?

I think I would have preferred DL, OL, OL, RB, instead. :(

I would love to see the Patriots get Mark Herzlich. Hopefully he falls to us at 138 or w/e area makes Belichick think there's value in trading in to get him.

Tell them to say hello again when an NFL team drafts them. Just because we know their names does not mean they are NFL starters, especially as rookies. Who's to say the Pats don't wind up getting them anyway?

We have no picks in the 4th round, unless we trade up, so that's a real possibility that both will go before then.

Not even close. It was a team that had great talent. Many had suffered under the bad coaching of Pete Carrol, but the talent was there.
If you honestly saw the talent back then, then you should get a job on an NFL team, because other than Belichick and Ernie Adams I don't know of anyone that saw that 2001 team coming out of camp as being talented and having much of a chance at even a winning record that year - even more so after the start when two of the best players at that time (Glenn and Bledsoe) were unavailable. That was a team coming off a 5-11 in Belichick's (not Carrol's) first season as head coach that was filled with a lot of players with either very little starting experience, or at the end of journeyman careers.

It's easy to say that team had talent know with the benefit of ten years worth of hindsight. However, I still say at that time the 2001 team was quantity over quality, lots of players expertly filling small (but important) roles - as opposed to being loaded with top-end elite quality (aka early first-round blue chip prospects coming out of college.)

Also people, it looks like its up to Price and Tate....

Mallett dominated in the SEC. He was a 5 star recruit out of HS. He literally will make Tom cower in shame when he displays that howitzer on his right shoulder. The KOC comparison is absurd--guy wasn't even good in college.

Ridley, OTOH, is just a bizarre pick.

Ridley is a special teams gunner ... now the pick makes more sense.

I'll save them time for you. Hi Allen Bailey. Scott Pioli likes you, good luck with the Chiefs, I wish you well.

3rd and a 4th for raider's 2nd in 2012 isn't that great. should have been 3rd straight up. Why throw in a 4th?

What about clint boling? Thought they were going to take him with that pick...he'll be gone by the 5th. Or kendrick ellis of hampton, he'd be good in the 4th, which is now gone.

curiouser and curiouser.

They need a center too.

for months I've been panning mock drafts and NONE of them were this bad!!!!!

IS it me, or are the Pats still without a starting guard, a DE, and an OLB????????

As jerry seinfeld would say, "It's partially you."
