Trent Brown shares his side of the story with NESN

I appreciate his candor. He makes some good points.

It's also a biased, self-serving CYA from a guy who has the talent and physical attributes to be a pro-bowler. But for some reason has bounced around from team to team. Some of it may be true but I can't believe a word of it. Multiple teams don't let a starting caliber OT get away without a pretty good reason.

I'm sorry guys, I gotta say this: The hatred by some fans in Pats nation towards BB and some members of the coaching staff have really over-ridden their critical thinking skills. Be more skeptical of what you read in the press. (and that's not meant to be a dig against you Bourne Again Christian. It's just a general statement about many fans and press lately.)
There is too much smoke to be no fire when it comes to what a disaster the coaching staff has been this season so I think Trent Brown is speaking the truth to some extent but I also agree with you there is a major CYA element in his comments. The whole "I was sick for a month" stuff is nonsense to me. There are numerous clips of him out there loafing and half assing it this season and you can't chalk of everyone of those moments to being sick. I have been sick of Trent Brown since they had to give him a pay bump to actually give a sh*t. In a 4 win locker room the last thing you need is a malcontent like Brown checking out as others will start to follow. I honestly wish they just cut him after the Germany game.
There’s two sides to every story and Brown has not earned the benefit of doubt. His career is over in NE and maybe entirely for slamming coaches publicly.
Some team is going to pay him a good amount of money next year to be their headache by Thanksgiving.

Am the the only one who likes Trent Brown?? He was not our only problem.

If this player treatment is even remotely true I would fire bb in a heartbeat

That being said we don’t know if it is but some of the things he says match with other reports about the dysfunctional behaviour

He dropped some very concerning things.

But I also read a trail of insubordination.

How dare we try to work someone in with ones and ask you to run with the 2s. I mean anyone in that spot should just go home.

I'm sure much of what he said was accurate and I hated those OL trades/non-signings, too... but I cannot stand this guy. Seems like he has no heart or fire. He's not on Hernandez's level, but still one of my least favorite Pats of all time. I felt like that before this article.

again, the "other reports" all listed anon sources....likely trent was an anonymous source lol......he helped define the narrative

there is 100% some ability to 2nd guess roster building, there always is.......karras not coming back was not the worst move, shaq mason and cole strange graded out pretty similar, and strange when healthy mid season graded higher......was strange a 1st round talent? we'll see when the career winds down, but so far he's a 2 year starter who is rounding into a top tier guard according to the really good guessers that do ranks....but roster building is a mix of business acumen, talent judging, and pure witchcraft......this team has been on the lower end of the bar on some of their decisions the past few years, but they've also had a lot of building to do......some modernization, some re-valuing of skilsets they look for, etc is for sure needed

but one cannot ignore the career that is trent brown......he's had the same issues everywhere he's played as an adult......he's had the ability to go on cruise control and still get paid large sums of money, when he could put in the work and be an all-pro caliber LT.....frustrating as a fan, frustrating as an organization, but Trent seems ok with it.......so does his agent, so.....

for that, it's hard for me to read much into this.......yeah, things did not go well organizationally, no ****........but trent is also angling for another payday of some sort, and this helps in that regard.....so, meh, see ya and fare thee well

i'm from the prefontaine school: to give anything less than your best is to sacrifice your gift........trent brown is obviously in the $100 million in career earnings, so **** it school.......

Gators in the NFL are almost always busts or pains in the ass.

That pretty much puts the last nail in the coffin of Trenton's Pats career if Bill stays.

Even though he's right about most of what he says regarding personnel moves. His claims about his own treatment sounds like he and Gronk could commiserate over a few brews.

He is an UFA. He's not coming back.

Highly suspect of anything this dude says. Deflecting blame for his crappy/lazy season. Show up in shape and work hard. That’s all he had to do and could t do it.

I mean, BB took a retread that other teams saw as a problem child - made him a SB champ, which lead to a massive contract. Cry me a river, Trent...

How many games did Trent Brown play this season? He was apparently noticeably out of shape at the minicamp he showed up late for, and was babied all preseason, then proceeded to miss half the games this season. I think there’s a strong correlation between those two things. Also his comments about Karass and Mason are disrespectful to Strange and Onwenu. Shows what a lousy teammate he is.

He‘s not wrong that they’ve done a lousy job coaching the OL, going back to when Scar retired. Not getting that problem solved is one of my biggest reasons for wanting a change at HC.

Really don't understand why they couldn't dump him at the trade deadline. There were tackle-needy teams in the playoff hunt.

He got hurt the game before the deadline. His contract was also really hard to trade. It’s almost expected these days that the trading team pays a bonus so the acquiring team only pays minimum salary for the remainder of the year, but that would have required the Patriots to pay incentives that hadn’t been earned (and ultimately weren’t earned). Many teams didn’t have the ability to take the cap hit of all of his LTBE incentives.

That's a lot of words to say "I'm tired."

He was pretty candid about the season without going scorched earth. Seems like he made a lot of excuses and all denied saying he would be playing for an NFC team next year.

Some interesting notes on the coaching staff:

“Because I’ve even heard from coaches how they’ll sit in staff meetings and they’ll be talking about how they can f–k with me. Like, I guess trying to get me out of character or whatever. It’s really crazy to think that we’re spending time talking about that instead of getting better.” Brown then called back to the spring, when he skipped OTAs because he “wanted to be a dad.” However, Brown said he was present early in the offseason program because the Patriots wanted him and Strange to get reps together. But when Brown reported, he was greeted by a curveball. “When I come, you got me running with the twos,” Brown said. “Why am I here? That makes no sense. So, I left.” Brown then showed up late to minicamp — reportedly due to a travel issue — and didn’t see much work over the abbreviated two-day session. A month later, with rumors of a contract dispute swirling, the Patriots asked Brown to report early to training camp.

“There just needs to be more attention on signing and drafting good players,” he said. “And also understanding that Foxboro is not a vacation spot. You’ve gotta spend some money to get good players, and you’ve gotta spend money to keep your good players in-house. And once they’re in-house, you’ve gotta treat them with some respect and common decency as a human being.”

Sounds like Brown must read this forum:

“If you pay Ted Karras, who played a hell of a season at left guard before he left to go to Cincinnati, I think that solves an issue,” Brown said. “I think if you don’t trade Shaq Mason, who’s an All-Pro guard, that solves an issue. I don’t think it was necessary for those moves to be made. And then to not really replace them with guys of their caliber.” One of those replacements is Strange, a 2022 first-rounder whom Brown said recently sought his council after undergoing knee surgery. Another is fourth-round rookie Sidy Sow, who played guard in college but focused on tackle during his first training camp. Sow eventually moved back to right guard and made 13 starts while showing real promise. “I feel like he probably could’ve gotten off to a better start if he’d been playing guard all along,” Brown said of Sow. “… You tell (Adrian) Klemm to put him at right tackle and you don’t want him nowhere else. I think that kind of delayed his development.” Brown also believes Jones was undermined by Matt Patricia’s move to offensive play-caller in 2022. “I know people are down on Mac and whatnot, but I don’t think it’s his fault,” Brown said. ” … Mac’s rookie year, took us to the playoffs. He had a good O-line in front of him. He had a quarterback coach. And he had an offensive coordinator that he had a relationship with, could feel comfortable with. Josh (McDaniels) leaves, and we don’t have a career offensive coordinator. We just had somebody (Patricia) who was holding the spot … doing a favor, or something.”
Interesting article. I think he is spot on in his criticisms of the organization and how things have been handled with spending money, coaching and personnel decisions.

However he wants to come off as the victim. I highly doubt he is simply being slandered. The guy’s reputation of quitting on teams precedes him and the complaints about him go beyond that Herald article.

He is at fault but whatever he states there is no iota of falsehood in it. Makes the coaching staff look so incompetent..
