Antonio Smith accuses Patriots of spying

"BB came out and said in his one Spygate presser"......

You make my point. This was a national conversation for the entire 2007 season. BB gave 1 presser? There is not a media member in this nation who would have declined a Belichick interview if given the opportunity. Belichick never took the opportunity. Belichick NEVER put this issue in its' proper context by explaining/educating the public about the use of filming within the NFL. He NEVER put the entire issue in its' proper context, i.e. we are allowed to tape over here but not over here.
BB and Kraft allowed the media to write an inaccurate account of what the Patriots were actually guilty of. Because Belichick refused to defend himself and explain the whole filming process he allowed the media to mis/disinform and forever tarnish his reputation.

This x1,000. That debacle and the effects we will feel today was largely the result of poor PR/management. I understand they follow a precedent for how they handle issues. Spygate warranted a different approach. Unfortunately, this error is now not reversible. I know I will be answering stuff about this to other fans for the rest of my natural life. It's so aggravating. Follow a bad football team for years, they finally win, and then have to stand up to people about cheating the rest of your years. What can you do, though?

Oop just traveled to Yahoo.com. Top headline appeared as, "Patriots accused of cheating".

Smith should have to either prove the accusation truthful or the Texans forfeit a first round draft pick to the Pats.

"With the #1 pick in the 2014 NFL Draft courtesy of Antonio Smith's big mouth, the Superbowl Champion New England Patriots select, Jadavon Clowney, DE, South Carolina"

For what it's worth, the Texan fans are pretty much universally not only not buying what Antonio Smith said, but are embarrassed by his remarks:

Antonio Smith says Patriots cheated - Houston Texans Message Board & Forum - TexansTalk.com

lol seriously though, its embarrassing. Smith, you do realize you just basically CONFIRMED what Ed Reed said before he was cut. Wade makes no adjustments and teams know how to beat us. And don't give me that crap about some new "wrinkle" they added.....bottom line is, we sent the house over and over in the 2nd half and Brady lit us up, I WILL NEVER understand why we blitz and leave our terrible corners one on one over and over again when we play good qbs

This is embarrassing . . . for the Texans.

Only a texan defense would equate 'adjustments' with cheating

SMH...have some dignity and take your loss.

Antonio Smith is just embarrassing himself saying this crap.

Smith has always been a bit mouthy and likes to be quotable. Put it down to Smith being Smith more than anything.

Says the guy is who is now playing for officially the worst team in the league. Wonderful.

Something new doesn't mean it's something better. The fact that the refs didn't flag Antonio for his standard off sides means the refs were in McNair's pocket.

It's nice that it took your coach 12 games to try and make adjustments. If you didn't know it Ninja other coaches do it within any given game.

To their credit, Texans fans are destroying Smith for this claim on the boards I've looked at. Here's one:

"Some of the stupidest comments a Texans player has ever made. I can see how Antonio would be confused though. He's been playing for Gary for so long that he's forgotten that every other team actually makes adjustments at the half. Have the the other teams that have come back on us been cheating as well? The Patriots came back last week vs Denver. Did they cheat for that game as well? These comments are just embarrassing."

Now, I think a fan base that isn't so down on their team would have at least one guy who is chirping, but they're calling it as it is.

Too bad they didn't use that magical spying ability against the Ravens and Giants the past couple of years.

Brady and Belichick please win another ring to shut this whole "Haven't won anything since...." bull****

Yeah.....because a team on a 10 game losing streak can't screw the pooch in the second half

Ironically enough, the local sports network (MASN) did a special on Ray Lewis from the 2009 playoff game. Ray knew all of Brady's cadences and calls. Not coincidentally, Lewis was in the backfield all game, and the offense didn't do anything. Part of that was because of Welker being gone and the defense giving up a TD on the first play from scrimmage, but people who think only the Patriots have ever tried to steal signals is laughable.

Just my opinion, but it wouldn't shut anyone up. The line would simply change to something like, "they started cheating again after they got caught last time..." Nothing will ever stop the haters from making that claim in one way, shape, manner or form.

"and then after they cheated and stole our signals, The Patriots killed all of our cheerleaders"

I could not help but notice that myself. I'm not a football expert but my layperson opinion is that such a defensive scheme is less than optimal. :D

One recurring thing that bothers me is time after time a QB rolls right being chased by a line person towards the sideline. At last minute at the sideline, the QB tosses a pass downfield 20 yds to a receiver who is along the sideline. 1st down!

I for one would have my DBs/LBs practice this specific situation instructing them that the QB likely has a very limited field of operation and to hang by the WR/RB/TE near that sideline. I'm sick of the surprised look as defenders are amazed the QB tossed a desperation sideline pass for another 1st down. HELLO!!!

Seriously, in that situation it's basically the only place left where the QB can throw, and somehow we consistently manage to not have anyone there. On the aggregate, seeing that over and over again is almost as bad as seeing Arrington trying to cover an outside receiver again. At least that was so bad that we can hope Belichick's learned to never do that again.

Also, reading the quotes again, it seems like Smith was basically just joking around and confirming that the Texans' coaching staff is hot garbage that's incapable of adjusting, right? I mean, he outright said "they either spied or they scouted us". Seems like he was trying to have some fun with the whole Spygate thing while also pointing out that they're basically the most easily scoutable team in the league since they never change anything, and even the wrinkles that they add are so basic that a decent defense will already be prepared for them anyway.

I dunno, maybe I'm giving him too much credit.

I don't know which is more ridiculous...that a lousy player on a lousy team makes such a stupid allegation after a loss, or that so many members of the media fall all over themselves to write "stories" based upon it, for the sole purpose of creating a "Patriots cheat" headline generating clicks.

It's as if the defenders give up on their guy while watching the QB be chased. I mean if the QB is being chased right and your offensive player is (correctly) drifting over towards the sideline this MIGHT BE A CLUE that there will be a desperate sideline pass. Be there as the desperation pass is likely intercept able. Just a suggestion.

I don't understand what everyone here is getting worked up about.... I looked up this very topic over on the Texans forum, and it got a whopping 6 replies, all of which criticise Smith for being an uber-moron... If the Texans fans don't get worked up over this, why should we even care?

From the way their legs were splayed, I think they were waiting for Gronk's touchdown.

I agree 100%. That was ridiculous yesterday. Every time they flushed the QB out of the pocket, it was a slow LB'er closing in on him, a desperation throw and another catch for a first down...and they did it over and over again.

Good grief…..18 pages on this? Are WE trying to blow this idiocy up int a huge story or something?
