I’m on the fence. Need to take some time and think on it. Is there a candidate even worthy to walk in his shoes. You just don’t fire a guy and hire an average Joe off the street or some innovative oc or college coach. Not sure if O’brien is cut out to be a HC or if Mayo is experienced enough?

Be careful what you wish for I guess.
O'Brien has the same issue Bill has now. Probably worse. He's garbage at roster contruction. That was the story of his Texans era. He was a good x's and o's guy who just kept making boneheaded decisions

it would be fitting if he was fired and went to team like the Chargers and won the whole damn thing like Brady did. It would be hilarious actually.
Could 100% see a situation where he gets fired, goes to the Chargers or Jets, then they go on a spending spree to sell out for a couple years and win a title.

Mazz is insufferable, but let's be real, they had no plan at QB when they let Brady walk.
As the years go by it sadly seems more and more true. There was no plan. That however doesn’t matter anymore. It’s 2023 and Brady would be gone by now anyway.

Absolutely nothing but respect for the guy and what he’s done for the organization. He brought an amazing culture and is a fantastic coach.

Unfortunately, he’s a subpar GM and had some abysmal drafts up until 2-3 years ago when he appeared to change philosophy and started grabbing better players (different scouts)?

But even with his coaching, I think it’s just becoming outdated and he’s not picking up on newer trends quick enough. The offense is clearly mostly his system as it has looked relatively the same through Josh, Matt, and now BOB. Yea, they have things like 3 TE sets more, but it’s the same dink n dunk offense that no longer works.

He got the guy who is decent at that (Mac), but defenses around the league are built to try and contain Mahomes, Allen, etc. Stopping the screen pass is significantly easier now with the speed on defense.

So he built the roster he wanted, but the system just doesn’t work. As a programmer, that’s no different than being the team lead and suggesting Visual Basic as the primary language and then wonder why the application performs like **** compared to better languages.

So yea, it’s time to let him go. Give him a forceful retirement. Don’t embarrass the guy. Don’t run him out. Just tell him it’ll be his last season as the league has moved on from his style.

Just my 2c

If there is a way to separate Bill the coach and Bill the GM, that would be ideal. Bill the coach might not be as far ahead of his peers as he once was, but is still very good. Bill the GM, just isn't going to cut it any more. You can say what you want about "other teams miss on players too", the reality is that this team's talent level is vastly inferior to the other teams within our division. Bill is old enough where he is set in his ways, but the team can't afford to play around with his roster decisions any more. Since it is unlikely Bill agrees to coach only and let someone else run personnel, it might be best to move on from both sides

I agree. At this point, BB isn't going to accept a demotion. I know the Pats will suck worse with a new Head Coach but big changes need to happen. Either suck for blue chip, can't miss players in the draft (especially on offense) or live in mediocrity which is what we have now.

BB's legacy is secure. With this roster, that he hand-picked himself, he's not going to catch Shula. That is unless he coaches for another decade.

I’d have to agree. Doesn’t look like the change to BoB has drastically improved the offense. Talent level isn’t where it needs to be.
Fire the wr coach as well
No matter who we sign or draft , when they play here, they play like ****

I think Kraft wants to see him break Shulas record while he’s a Patriot. If this record deal wasn’t in reach or had been reached already I think Bill would be fired at the end of this season. Out of respect I don’t think Kraft would fire Bill mid season.
With corky this will take decades to beat the record

I love Troy Brown the player. I don't get why Troy Brown the coach gets a pass.

Hell, even Ted Williams sucked as a coach. Being a great player doesn't always translate into being a good coach.

Yes exactly , I don’t know why the position coaches for TE and WR are not getting talked about. The pats spent a lot of money and I am sure way more than league average on Skill positions but the production is more like bottom tier
This goes back to offense schemes and position coaches as well

A change is needed at this point, I mean, how much worse can it get?

Nope. GOAT Coach. I would let him go out on his own terms.

Even if they go 1-16?

(I'm not saying they will...not with another game against the Jets on the schedule)

Bill's #1 draft picks.....2019-23

2019 N'Keal Harry.................Epic bust
2020 Traded out of first round
2021 Mac Jones..........Lacks any physical tools necessary to elevate an offense. Future QB2.
2022 Cole Strange......At a minimum, a substantial overreach. Physically overmatched at times
2023 Gonzalez.......Tremendous talent though his slight physique may contribute to durability issues

Listening to Bedard last night, he again stated the NE roster possesses only ONE blue chipper: Mathew Judon, a player acquired via Free Agency.
Can't argue with that

I don't agree with the Mac criticism. He's a starting QB on 28 other teams in this league. He not the type of player that can elevate mediocre talent. A lot of starting QB's are like that.

You think only 4 qbs in this league are better than mac?

lol. Get your head out of his ass.
Watch, when he's gone and you'll get your wish sooner rather than later, he'll have success when he's got the right supporting cast.
