Cousins, The bad news is we have no top WR in the bunch now. The good news is we can stop the nonsense of Drafting one of the Holy Three and now consider a WR at #3 or Trade down and get a QB later. You have no choice but to get a WR now when the top three all have issues. I would take Penix, Nix McCarty or Rattler as long as I got a WR.
I know this won't be popular but why not take a shot with Beckham who played the full season for the Ravens and was decent. Beckham, PFF’s No. 5 true free agent wide receiver, entered the off season projected to earn a one-year, $7 million contract. He finished second on the Ravens in receiving yards last season (565). He's a year older than Ridley?

OBJ is done. His body is done. Not a guy I'd sign to be the WR1

I gotta say, it’s too funny seeing everyone so worked up because they missed out on overpaying Calvin frickin Ridley.
Would perhaps be comical if that were actually the case, but that's not why anyone is "worked up". Patriots have the most cap space in the NFL, stated they would "burn some cash" and "weaponize the offense", but have not made a single significant signing to this point. Treading water as a 3-14 team is anything but inspiring.

There's no way the Patriots offered significantly more than this like their mouth pieces were trying to say to save fave for not a single significant WR upgrade to a team that really needs some ****ing help.
You’d have been happier with them throwing dumb money at Calvin Ridley or Darnell Mooney? How about $13 mil a year for Gabe Davis whose numbers have been tenable mediocre as a number two option.

Devin Duvernay?
lil Jordan Humphrey?
Mack Hollins?
Isaiah McKenzie?

Which one of those are you really upset they missed out on?

If the Patriots didn't have the dumb money to throw - no, but they do, and they're accumulating trash like a hoarder instead.

We are getting trolled hard by the football Gods. We aren’t over the shock of Tenn swooping on and signing Ridley and they announce that the Pats have signed two depth interior lineman (DT and OG) that most of us have never heard of.

Maybe one of the former Tompa-Gronka thread regulars can give us a detailed scouting report on Leverett. Heavy hands? How is his Bucket Step? Love me some good Bucket Step talk.

Pats needed to have the top offer to get Ridley, Wilkins or Hunter and didn’t do so.

A couple extra million here or there isn’t going to break the bank but failing to do so has cost them players. I’d rather have a great player added as an overpay than not sign anyone of consequence.

the team has tried to go the value route for a long time and I was hoping it would change under wolf.

That being said there are still a number of players left that could help improve the team.

Who's upset?

The Patriots owe it to their fans to do something. The fact that nothing can be done is not the answer.

It wasn't the answer when they said they would be adding major talent to the team.

They don't get to turn around and then say the money was too high too.

But to answer your question more direct.

You're never going to get a WR here without paying them ******** money. There was a time where giving moss 10 mil a year was outrageous to some.

Gotta fill out the roster somehow. It’s certainly not exciting but let’s not pretend they’re the only team not really lighting the word on fire so far.

They’ve brought back a bunch of guys so they’re not digging themselves a hole any deeper, if we’re at this point closer to the start of the season then it’s a sad sign

Again they didn’t sign Ridley, every other WR that’s been signed is an interchangeable part.

Nobody is lining up to sign with the Patriots. I hate it but top tier talent isn’t coming unless they are overpaid.

I am happy about the tenn swooping
I would not sign ridley for that money

It's not that they didn't sign Ridley.
They didn't sign *anybody*.

Their best, most-skilled free agent signing was Antonio Gibson.

They resigned a lot of their free agents, at the very least they’re not digging thanlves into. Deeper hole.

I’m willing to give them time, if it’s a team with mild improvements that starts the season with cash to spare I’ll be just as upset

It's only been their biggest weakness across both drafting and free agency for years.

Nothing to see here.

Unless they're adding a top 10 QB, this team is legit ****ed next season.

The team said they are looking to get more explosive on offense.
Higgins, Boyd, doesn’t accomplish that.
Ridley could have, Aiyuk would.
Marquise Brown has been kind of meh.
I don’t want to pay WRs just to pay WRs,
What is Mike Williams running these days?
What other fast WRs could we get in on in a trade?

Out of curiosity, how much time have you given them thus far?

Let's not act like this is year 1 of a rebuild.

Signing their own mediocre to ass players, especially on offense, doesn't do a thing for anyone and certainly isn't going to do a thing in the win loss combo.

It's pretty clear now that the Patriots believe they have the talent and that it was all Bill and Macs fault.

Now that they're gone, we should be looking at a 10 win season.
