Rodgers 2011: 40 TD/ 6 interceptions(15%)
Brady 2007: 50 TD/8 interceptions(16%)
All Rodgers has to do is not throw an interception in his final two games. If he throws a pick he also needs to throw 4 passing TD's to top it. Rodgers has been on fire this year.
I agree that trophies and rings are more important than individual stats/records, and I have said so often out here. But I do have to admit that I find it amusing when people dis a record like this one.
If the record is so "useless" and "insignificant," how come no one has exceeded it in the 33 seasons since the NFL went to a 16 game schedule in 1978? And before you tell me that the run was more important 25 years ago and it's been a pass happy league in recent times, I point out that Marino set the record 27 years ago.
Several have observed in this thread, "Oh, old so and so, who never accomplished squat, threw for 4,500 yards, etc." But the difference between a 4,500 or 4,600 yard season and a nearly 5,100 yard season is two or three games. That means Marino accomplished in 16 games what they would have needed 18 or 19 games to accomplish; I wouldn't want to tell Dan Marino to his face that that's pigeon ****.
So, yeah, it's not as important as winning the last game of the season (and I don't mean the Pro Bowl ), but it is a big deal.
The reason it's meaningless is because compared to other records like interception % and td-to-interception ratios it has a lot less to do with winning and losing. Points matter more. Interceptions matter more. These two have a lot more to do with winning, winning seasons and winning Super Bowls than yards.
Brees is nowhere near these records. 37 TD's to 11 interceptions which is 29%. What this means is if he gets into a shoot out with Rodgers, he's about twice as likely to throw a pick than Rodgers and give GB a much better chance to win.
All I know is Brady can maintain that type of efficiency at a larger output. Aaron's 1% more efficient than Brady was in 2007 so far but his overall output is lower throwing 2.9 TD's per game versus Brady's 3.1 , so it's hard to say if he can maintain it while churning out enough passes to put up an additional 10 TD's in 2 games which is pretty unlikely anyway this year.
Both Brady and Brees are almost identical this year in terms of numbers. Aaron is just sickly efficient and deserves to be commended far more than Brees does for his yards. If Brady or Brees can take down Rodgers this year who is playing more efficiently than Brady himself did in 07 that would probably be close to the type of accomplishment Eli made when taking down Brady in the Super Bowl.
No pressure Tom.
Hey when was the last time Tom was the underdog in anything, let alone in a Super Bowl? His first? He may just enjoy this. I also know Brady can resume right back to playing that damn good after being completely shut down for an entire half.
Either way if Tom Brady and any of those 2 guys reach the Super Bowl it's going to be what Peyton Manning vs Tom Brady would have been. It's going to be tighter and more competitive and bigger than Elway vs Montana. This year has a chance at a classic in the making. All 3 of these guys have a chance at immortality if they face each other. Tom's at an advantage from an experience point of view, but he's at a disadvantage from the simple fact he's been studied compared to Aaron a lot closer. Defenses know him inside and out while Rodgers is still fairly new and Drees is just so well backed up by the Saint's offense and running game.
I hope Tom makes it, and I hope any of those 2 guys make it. They deserve it. And they likely won't make it without going through each other. Which will make it pretty definitive if you think about it. Saints vs Green Bay in the NFC and the winner gets to face the Patriots and Brady. I mean, it just doesn't get much more definitive and competitive. The only thing missing is Brady going through Peyton on his way, but he's done that plenty of times already.
Fun. Can't wait for the playoffs. This is the first time in a long time where the starting QB's in the Super Bowl also have a chance to be the best QB's in the league. Which means the winner will own that title, MVP be damned.
I have seen many clips/highlights of marino (was too young to watch him), and he was a FANTASTIC QB.
One of the best releases i have ever seen. It is a pity he does not have a ring.
IMO, if he had BB as a coach, he probably would have 1-2 rings now, maybe more

Those stats and three bucks will get you a latte at Starbucks and no one respects stats more than I do.
The yardage record is one that folks value.
As I said in my OP, trophies and rings are far more important, but, all other things being equal, this record means something. I'll stand by my post.
Thanks, though, for the polite tone in your disagreement.
Respect to you and go Pats, all the way to Indy and the podium, with or without the single season yardage record.

How about 5 td, 0 int last night? Puts him at 45 td, 6 int. Holy smokes.
I think the Falcons will try and make a statement. Even if Brees doesn't break it tonight he'll break it next week.
If Suh stays in the game, I can't see Rodgers pulling a 5TD 0 INT game. I think Brady's record is safe.

He's total TD might be but his TD -to-Interceptions from 2007, his efficiency record...it's gone now.
50/8 = 6.25
45/6 = 7.5
Unless he throws 2 interceptions next game, he just smoked it. Even if he doesn't throw a touchdwon but throws 1 interception he's going to own it.
45/7 = 6.42
I swear I think Green Bay is no longer public and really got bought out by the Japanese. They took the Pats and Tom, broke it all down, performed reverse engineering, and now are basically way ahead of the game.
We gotta stop them. Aaron's got his entire career to rack up rings. Can't let him start off this hot with back to back Super Bowls.
