It's 2014 and things like this should not matter at all but the fact a quality FS like Kerry Rhodes couldn't find a team because of a rumor he was gay is kind of worrying.
This is a prospect that CBS gave a top 100 rating - hopefully franchises aren't going to be homophobic and blackball him and instead judge him on his obvious Footballing ability - SEC defensive player of the year is no small task!
Why is it important to announce that your gay??
Who really cares?
It's one thing if you don't deny it if you're asked...be yourself, sure, but announcing it?? Who cares what type of person you prefer to be romantically involved with.
Look, I'm a vagina man...women do it for me. I think they're fantastic.
I feel better having announced that.

Why do we care?
Because there is a stigma against gay athletes in professional sports. There are currently no gay NFL players in the NFL. Going by your logic, why do they celebrate Jackie Robinson in baseball or across the United States. "Who really cares if he's black?"
I think it's an admirable thing for him to do and takes a lot of balls. I personally could care less if he did or didn't, because it doesn't do anything for me personally or have any effect on me. But athletes who are gay, people who struggle with coming out, etc. This will hopefully do wonders for their confidence and help them be more comfortable with who they are.
If you didn't care you wouldn't have clicked on the thread and taken the time to write a negative response to the article. End of discussion.
