As much as I liked the potential of Garoppolo, it just wouldn’t be right to cut the GOAT’s career short. He should be allowed to keep playing here as long as he thinks he can still be Tom Brady. I want every minute of his career he’s willing to give. And I have faith that as soon as he feels his ability deteriorating at all, he will hang them up.Nobody knows how good JG is going to be or how long he is going to play. He had a very good game and a half. That's it. We don't know how he would be in a playoff game. We don't know how he would be in a SB down 14 points with 10 minutes left in the game. We only know how good he would be in the first game of a season.
Yes BB had a choice and he made it and it was Brady.
I hope JG has a HOF career but I would have hated it if they had cut Brady's historic career short especially when he is still playing like Brady.
You would pass up 3 more Super Bowls under Brady for that? You are crazy. That's just silly. We have no idea what JG could become. he could be a JAG or the next GOAT. Even if you could guarantee me the next three SuperBowls I would still rather have a top 5 QB for ten year who keeps us in the mix. I am in no hurry to become the Dolphins again.
Was it though? They are saying on the radio that the Pats told teams they weren't interested in trading Jimmy G. this spring and never tried hard to get any serious offers. Sigh.Much like Collins I get the move it's just the timing and the value. They weren't getting SF's first but if it was the 2nd and something conditional based upon his performance or extending with the SF I would get it a lot more. The other thing that's apparent is his value last year before the draft was way overstated.
I respect Garoppolo for this. I would have lost all respect for him if he volunteered to hold a clipboard for another couple of years. Good for him for believing in his abilities.
These rumors are just torture devices to us fans. Guaranteed self-infliction of pain without anything good possibly coming of it.If the rumors are true, the Pats could have had the 13th pick in the draft and more ....
Tom Brady, on the other hand, has won 2 SBs just in the last two seasons. That's as many as any other current QB (Eli, Roethlisberger) for their entire careers to date, one more than the next best current QB (Aaron Rodgers) has in his entire career to date, and as many as Peyton won in his entire career.
Every time I saw Brisette on the TV playing QB for IND I thought JG must be mad that JB is playing and he is not. I felt there was no way he'd be sticking around waiting for TB12 to retire. If Jimmy demanded to play then it’s a no brainer. They could have probably got a better deal if they did the trade before the season though but they probably wanted to see if Brady was still good or something
It's not true, it's just a sports talk narrative. No one on the inside ever confirmed such an offer was on the table. What we do have these days is:If this is true (and it seems like it is) then the Pats really screwed up by not getting the best offer they could have this spring.
Yeah, as much as I’m fully behind TB for however long he can do it and like getting a high 2 for Jimmy, trading Jacoby makes a lot less sense now. Having him would make drafting a QB next spring an option as opposed to a near necessity.Probably should have kept Brissett if this was the plan. He’d have been a cheap backup for next two and a half seasons.
Both could be true. Was it though? They are saying on the radio that the Pats told teams they weren't interested in trading Jimmy G. this spring and never tried hard to get any serious offers. Sigh.

Amen. It completely baffled me how so many people thought...Anyone who thought Garoppolo was going to take a reasonable deal to sit yet another year were really delusional. All during the off-season, I heard people say that if the Pats gave him ok starter money, he would stay and sit another year because the situation is so good. It never made any sense. Any QB worth their salt wants to play. I think Garoppolo would have welcomed a trade to the Browns this offseason rather than sitting another year or two.
Bolded words should clear up the confusion. Was it though? They are saying on the radio that the Pats told teams they weren't interested in trading Jimmy G. this spring and never tried hard to get any serious offers. Sigh.
It was a baffling summer while people put forth those crazy ideas as if those not believing them were crazy.Amen. It completely baffled me how so many people thought...
1) Garoppolo would take less money than he was worth to stay here
2) Garoppolo would be happy to carry a clipboard another couple seasons
3) Brady was just lying to us all when he stated time and time and time and time again how he wanted to keep playing several more years, and....
4) The Patriots would franchise Garoppolo because, you know, he's only making $1 million this year so, you know, if you franchise him that's like giving him a 2 year, $26 million deal and, you know, that's not a bad deal
