Belichick catches Shula

The loses record has picked up steam in the national media as is his record pre and post Tom Brady which is really bad. This will now be 3 out of 4 years he's missed the playoffs without Tom.

Bill would have a better record with Tom Brady and 21 other JAG starters.

Bill also had a losing season his first year here without Tom playing. He also had a couple with the Browns. With each season that Bill slugs along, hovering a little above and below .500, he's hurting his legacy.

It's too bad that Bill and Tom didn't both get to finish their careers here but they didn't.

I wonder if Bill had kept Brady and rode him for 3 years if it would have gained him enough wins to pass Shula*

Normally id say no way we dont win more than 2 but you never know with this team. They are even better at finding ways to lose this year than 20-22. Even almost blew the jets game if our defense didn’t go into ultra beast mode when they pulled within 3. Offense and st did their damndest to lose it.

It has been an all out assault on Bill with these posts and from the media already discussing his next coaching job. It's not surprising as more people are getting mad with these loses piling up.

His legacy is now starting to take a hit. He went on the exact same path as Greg Popovich.

He did it to him self when he pushed Brady out the door and proceeded to field the talent we've had the last 4 seasons.

It would of cost every other coach their job these past 4 seasons.

Cy Young lost 315 games in his career, and they say he was the best. they still give out an award every year with his name on it to the best pitcher.
You think they'll ever change the Lombardi to the Belichick? Yea, me neither.

I think they should change it to the Rex Ryan. Just a silver foot and everyone kisses it on the way to the presentation.

Not expecting that either. But to win the most, Young had to pitch in a lot of games, 315 of which he lost.

Landry has the record (178) when including playoffs. Bill is at 170 losses when including playoffs. Bill has 60 more wins than Landry.

Shula has 173 losses when including playoffs. I think Bill passes Shula this season.

Shula and Landry were very good to great right up until the very end. Seems like a theme.

Nope ... 2000 - 2019 is all-time, never to be repeated great. Unless he starts shooting refs from the sideline his legacy is secure.

Bill should have retired when Brady left. If he had, he would have gone down as the greatest coach of all time.
Now 4 years later he has definitely hurt his legacy.
Still a HOF coach, but now maybe in the top 5, not #1.
Failure to adapt and his failure to have any plans for key departures like Brady and McDaniels as well as this nightmare season will hurt his overall reputation.

Football might never be great again. It’s weird but we have the high of the New England Patriots franchise and future Patriot fans will never get to see a run like we did. In 25 years from now we might still be waiting for a Super Bowl birth. Getting used to this new reality is weird for people like me though who have never been through this.
us older fans I think can appreciate it fir what it was. Winning was unprecedented. 20 years of Boston sports!! In all honesty I actually want other teams to feel 18-1 lol.. that was truly painful. Somehow I’m rooting for the Bills and Dolphins to win the division for the next foreseeable future, but never taste the a Super Bowl win lol

Plus in 99 vinateri missed two field goals to either win or tie the game , kinda cost Carrol his job. Then turns around few years later and wins us a couple of super bowls. Crazy game …

The week after Bledsoe went down and a week before a certain someone became a starter:

Lesson learned: The offense is holding them back.

The Patriots are the only team in the NFL not to score more than 20 points in a game this season. A combination of shaky offensive line play (31st in pass-block win rate, 44.1%), receivers not coming through when the opportunity presents itself (e.g. DeVante Parker's drop on a beautiful deep ball late in Sunday's loss) and Mac Jones' turnover struggles (three returned for touchdowns in blowout losses in Weeks 4 and 5) has put the defense in a tough spot -- especially early in games. -- Mike Reiss
Deja’s vous all ovah again

Belichick only needs 3 more to pass Shula.

WIth the season circling the drain I think it's almost a lock we're the Hard Knocks team next August. I wonder what BB will think of that. Would he rather retire than let the cameras into Pats camp under his watch?

Weren't they supposed to have an in-season edition? I can't think of a more compelling team to watch than us right now for that series.
Belichick had a good enough relationship with NFL Films in 2009 that he let them follow him for the entire season.

Bill Belichick is nothing but a sub .500 Coach before Tom Brady came on the scene in 2001 after Moe Lewis and after Señor Brady got kicked out of One Patriot Place. This is an indisputable fact that the IBWT crowd will never acknowledge.
Substitute Jeff Fisher, Dom Capers, Rod Rust, Charlie Foxboro, Richie Kotite from 2020-2023.....same results - sub .500, no playoff wins

One point on Belichick closing in on the loss record: who in their right minds (other than the Bengals owners) would let a coach get close to that record if they weren't also winning a lot of games?

Case in point: Belichick is one of only seven coaches in NFL history with 25 seasons as a HC.
