Michael Penix Junior

From what I understand, his knees are basically bone on bone. If he had no such medical concerns he'd be a top 3 pick possibly. However, I wouldn't draft him as 'The Guy" just because his knees are that bad. I wouldn't even draft him in the first 3 rounds (as we have other needs as well).
John I want those medicals on my desk pronto for due diligence.

Michael Penix’s troubled injury history, all at Indiana:
In 2018, it was an ACL tear in his right knee. In 2019, he dislocated the sternoclavicular joint in his right arm. In 2020, he tore the same ACL again in his right knee. Then in 2021, he separated his shoulder at his AC joint.

I would still take Williams over Penix. His knees are just too much of a concern. Williams has the frame to add more weight/muscle.
That’s probably the group think consensus. I hate group think. It’s so often wrong.

I think Chicago takes Harrison Jr. #1 overall and pair him with DJ Moore tough Offense right there. I think Fields answered his critics in 23. The Bears can still take a Nix or Penix if they have doubts.

I haven't heard that; he has torn the same ACL twice, though.

Bone on bone would at his age make him essentially undraftable.

I have not read bone on bone either, but I did read what @State posted re: injuries at Indiana.

That performance was spectacular. The knee is a huge concern. The other lesser concern is that if the Pats keep Bill O’Brien, he doesn’t really fit the quick short passing scheme very well. He’s much better down the field than on short timing routes.

2 torn acls in right knee and sternoclavicsr injuries at shoulder. There is risk there no doubt.
Agree if no injury risk he might be QB1

From Dr. Flynn

The knee issues are concerning unfortunately for him. When one ACL happens, that's a pretty common injury. But when you start to see a second, there are a few different concerns," Flynn said. "One is, is he just at risk for having these really high-level injuries in general? There really hasn't been found any kind of gene or anything that associates Achilles, ACL tears, but a lot of researchers think there is something that links them, and we do tend to see these things happen sort of in groups in professional athletes. So that's kind of number one.

"But number two is more just that damage, that added damage to that one knee. And so, I think the important thing for him is knowing, is this knee stable? It's been reconstructed multiple times, so you're going to want the team to get a really good examination of him. Obviously, they're going to want to see imaging. And the second issue is, OK, now he's had two injuries, we know one ACL injury can lead to some arthritis, so is there something degenerative going on already in this young quarterback at the start of his career? Those are the two big red flags."

the two ACL tears in his right knee occurred in 2018 and 2020, so that means he's played 3 full seasons since then without knee issues.

If accurate then he really can't be picked high.

Damn shame.

Bone on bone may have been hyperbole on my part (although the same being said by those who cover the Patriots and many draft analyst's. One thing is certain, he's a huge risk from a long-term investing in the most important position on an NFL Team standpoint.

He might be one of those ever so rare exceptions to the rule. However, I wouldn't invest anything higher than a 6th round pick on him.

If his condition is degenerative (as I have a degenerative condition in my back), it absolutely will get worse. It's just a question of when (and that's even if he doesn't sustain a direct hit or something else to his knee (or knee's as the case may be). It's too bad though, as the man clearly has talent.

I hope we beat the Jets and are around pick 5 or 6, Joe Alt is the guy for me. We need to shore up the OL or it doesn't matter who the QB is. Resign Onwenu and I think we will have the makings for a very good OL. I do think they to draft a QB just not Williams, Maye or Daniels.

Bone on bone? So that would make Penix the Sony Michel of draft eligible QBs.

His pre draft medical will determine where he can be drafted. If it shows concerns I’d stay away from him.
