Bill Belichick Press Conference 7:30am (1/8/24)

As far as the top pick goes, Kraft is going to go 1996 on Bill and override him if he tried to trade down for a DL. Bob will tell him to take a QB.
Kraft learned his lesson and has been very hands off since then. This is BB's team to run...into the ground, it seems.

He’s got one year on his deal…for now.

No I'm laughing. If Bill stays, you're about to get an upgrade at QB and still find out this isn't a playoff team
And here lies the problem. Bill will ask for an extension because the new QB will most likely need time.
And if the QB doesn't work, it's going to be a Mac situation where it will be heavily implied that a QB was forced on Bill so that nobody on the coaching staff has to take responsibility for a failed development
If Bob truly wants Bill out, he tells him he can return for his last year, but these changes are being made. There will be some compromise by both parties. This is where Bill loses some leverage.

The biggest hiccup with Bob’s decision is that $25M for 2024. It doesn’t matter how much you’re worth. $25M is a lot of money and nobody wants to spend it for no reason.

It’s going to come down to whoever blinks first.

Belichick compromise ????

$25M is NOT a big deal if the Kraft's wants to move on.

Then why hasn’t he been fired yet if it was such chump change?

Either Belichick's gone or this is far and away the most signficant misstep of Reiss' career.

Doesn't make sense.

Only Robert and Bill know what's going on so to base your take on what people around them "sense" is dumb.

Everyone said that if Bill gave up GM then we have something to work with. Everyone said he would refuse this.

Yesterday Bill put it out there that he's open to anything.

So which is it? Is he lying? Is Kraft not interested in Bill the head coach anymore regardless of GM role?

Not firing Bill yet just to discuss with Bill how he's gonna fire him isn't doing Bill the favor Kraft thinks it is.

Count me on the “Bring back Josh as Assistant HC/QB Coach, plus Mick Lombardi and whoever else, and let him and BOB run the offense and build the staff they want and work in tandem with Bill and the front office on offensive player selection” train.

Josh was not a successful HC but he knows QBs. He is a good choice to help nurture and refine Drake Maye though having a veteran start the season may be wise. Perhaps he would bring Jimmy along again, who might be fine for a few games.
How's that going to work? OC by committee?

There's a presumption that only two people know. Kraft has higher up executives including his son who he consults with on decisions because they will be responsible for the fall out. We also don't know what Bill is willing to accept. He said he would "do whatever is best for the team". To him giving up GM duties might not be what he considers best for the team. We also don't know what extent he would accept that if he was open to it. If Kraft said "we hire a GM, he makes the decisions, you don't get to be in the room or have input, your job is to figure out how to play these guys and nothing else", is thats something Bill can tolerate or does it make him feel like he got demoted to just a grunt worker?
