Player Signing Pats sign Jacoby Brissett

I don't really think so. Brissett's a standard pro-style QB. And none of the top QBs in the draft have run anything like that.
He played CLE's WC schemes and has some mobility. I think Daniels is a better fit.

Today i learned a lot of people think Jacoby Brissett is better than he is, he's not even Gardner Minshew level.

If the 3rd pick doesn't start you've gone from one of the worst 5 starting quarterbacks in football to a less pouty yet still one of the worst 5 starting quarterbacks in football.

Jacoby Brissett will only be worth the money if he's parked on the bench holding the clipboard teaching the rookie how to become a pro, we only have so many years on the planet if Mayo/Wolf want to waste a year playing JB and winning 5 games then that's one year closer to getting fired.

Brissett or someone similar was always going to be the route they took. The Pats are taking a QB at #3, they were always taking a QB at #3. They want the financial flexibility of having a potential face of the franchise for 5 years at a reasonable cost. Fields was never an option, Cousins was never an option, and despite reports Baker Mayfield was never coming here. A mediocre/good bridge QB that is good in the locker room to go with the #3 pick was always the play.

I really dislike this move. It's too safe and signals two things: Mayo/Wolf are content with being mediocre at best this year and either Maye or Daniels will be taken at No. 3.
Mediocre would be a massive improvement and show that we’re moving in the right direction. I know we all want to win 10-12 games next season and be in the SB hunt but we also need to be realistic…we won 4 games last season and were tied for the 2nd worst record in the entire league.

I’m not sure how picking up a vet QB who has familiarity with NE as well as probably drafting a top 3 QB constitutes “playing it safe”. The Pats front office is doing exactly what the majority of us have been screaming for all off season.

Have patience with the new regime; Rome wasn’t built in a day.

I would rather zappe run with it until whoever we draft is ready.
Why would you want Zappe over Brissett? I’m not saying Jacoby is the 2nd coming, but I know he’s a much better QB that Zappe has shown.

Honestly, I don’t think Zappe survives camp cuts as I think Rourke will prove to be better than Zappe also.

Just my two cents…

You keep zappe.

you give him reps n the new system.

you build your long term back up that way.
Zappe will be fighting for his roster life in TC. He won’t be anywhere near the 1st team barring injuries. He’s the QB3 next season if he’s lucky.

Need to give the guy a break. He was a Mac supporter on the forum while having to sit through all those horrible home losses. He's terrified his season tickets will go to waste again. Poor dude is broken.

I’d prefer our rookie to have someone who will want to teach and work with him rather than have some tense, ultra-territorial relationship.
I want both. I want the rook to have both the friendly vet willing to work with him and the hyper competitive guy determined to snag the starting gig.

Updated your numbers for a better perspective.

really? no **** sherlock? If they build a great team and execute? that's just a stupid thing to say.
You argue like a ten year old.

Exactly, signing Brissett only makes sense if you draft someone.

He's a bridge QB, make that bridge lead somewhere.

Every team loves him then moves on after a season, he does everything except actually win football games.
I don’t think he was signed lead them to a SB, pretty obvious they see him as a potential to start a few games if the rookie isn’t good to go week 1. Be a mentor an extra coach on the sideline to help the rook out.

As noted earlier, mediocrity is a low bar to aspire to but if that is what satisfies you, that's your business. Signing Brissett epitomizes "playing it safe" because he was on the street, came relatively cheap and is fine with being a stop-gap rental, in addition to being familiar to the OC. Better veteran QB options with greater upside re. winning during the interim of grooming a rookie were available. But of course, they would've cost more in salary and/or trade capital.

Impatience isn't the issue here; no, Rome wasn't built in a day and no one is expecting 10-12 wins. But it's not unreasonable to expect this team to do everything possible toward winning in the short term while rebuilding for the future.

does this mean they are taking maye or daniels?

Had to go there in the hopes you might finally understand something, anything. Didn't work.

Im looking at the 8-17 record the past two years for Mac not the 10 win rookie season. If 2021 Mac doesn’t regress he’s still our QB and we’re not having this discussion.

In 2023 we were 4-13, 4-8 in one score games. It’s not out of the realm of possibility to get to 4 to say 6-7 wins by limiting the turnovers. Then by 2025 with the talent level hopefully improved we can challenge for a playoff spot.
The point is simple - the numbers are very similar, with Mac playing in less games.

The one thing I will add is this - I hope I am wrong. I hope Jacoby does well. He's now the presumptive starter. For better or worse. I said the same thing about Mac. And look where we are today. Arguing about the merits of using a career back up as a starter, with guys here actually boasting about his numbers. Which just blows me away...

If Zappe is cut, he's cut. No big deal.

Bringing in Brisett gains you nothing in the long term. short term bridge for whatever the plan is moving forward. Net gain of zero with the move.
