Maybe Breer shills for Samuel ... an' mebbe he don't.
But that is one HECK of a blog sequence.
Where else did you read this?:
"Moss did languish through the sprints, coming in last among skill players in just about every one, but from this view, there wasn’t a feeling of him dogging it elsewhere today. Here’s an example of what happens with him: On one play during the skeleton, Brady threw a bullet that was ticketed to go high over Moss’ head. He extended up, with a defender to each side of him, and simply snatched the ball out of the air without breaking stride. It didn’t draw many ooh’s and ahh’s, but that’s kinda the thing he does. He’s so natural that he can make what would be a spectacular catch for some look routine."
I agree. That page is brilliant stuff. Breer is clearly the football writer of record for the Herald. Have I been on vacation that long, or has he been writing this well for awhile now?
"Tory James had issues keeping up with any of the receivers, and got his lunch eaten in a big way by Jabar Gaffney yesterday. Chad Scott and Randall Gay are guys who, even in good years, have had trouble staying on the field. After that, you’re looking at a bunch of guys who’d have trouble making any team. Bottom line, the Patriots DBs have been lit on fire by the Colts in three games over the last two years. That problem could get worse if Samuel sticks to his guns."
Bingo. Without Samuel, the CB situation for the NEP is AFU. Yet no CB of value has been drafted since Hobbs in the 3rd round of 05. Mike Richardson does not count; he is a UDFA in 6th-rounder's clothing. At this point in their careers, Tory James and Chad Scott are better suited for FS. Wilson and Meriweather need to play CB instead.
"For all the talk about the new guys, there may not be a more important player on the roster than Maroney. He’s the only Patriot back with the real ability to carry the load over the long haul. And if he’s missing, it could trouble the passing game in the same way that passing game issues derailed the running game last year. Looking at the depth chart, Sammy Morris projects to be a better version of Patrick Pass, Heath Evans is a versatile fullback, Kevin Faulk’s a pure passing-down back. But those guys aren’t bellcows. Maroney is, and the team needs him to be. So it’s important to get him healthy and put him in position to post the 1,400-yard season he’s capable of."
Why is Chris Brown still unsigned?
Why was Sammy Morris signed instead of Justin Griffith?
Why was Justice Hairston drafted instead of DeShawn Wynn?
For that matter, why was Cedric Cobbs drafted instead of Michael Turner?
Inquiring minds want to know.
