I found the press conference disappointing. One hears how "smart" Mayo is. I didn't hear it, frankly. I understand this was not an occasion for detail on how the various interviews/decisions are going, but I thought his handling of the necessary gibberish and boilerplate was clumsy and maladroit: unimpressive. He managed to say about as much as we typically got from Bill: not a damned thing basically. Hopefully when he has something more substantive to offer, his presentation will be more focused and coherent. The "thundercat" thing was embarrassingly asinine. Why not make kissing the boss's ass a private thing? I found his animus re "finger pointers" potentially concerning. It is odd simultaneously to offer a warning to those who express their disagreement more pointedly (!) even as one emphasizes how "collaborative" one intends to be. We have all suffered through work situations in which our opinions are "welcome" but where the quality of one's welcome depended entirely on your offering a view the boss finds agreeable. All the mawkish Oprah crap was of no interest to me whatsoever. Nice kids. So what?
We'll see. Presumably the Krafts have seen in Mayo something more than a pleasing travel companion. Hopefully - presumably - they have seen in him reason for hope he can be a successful manager of a very complex enterprise which is presently in a state of failure. In his initial press conference, I saw no such thing. I'm gonna assume there's something more there. I really want to be positive. I intend to be. But to this point, it's a big fat meh for me. He's a nice guy, but we've already got a handle on finishing last>
