* Ye Olde 2013 Mock Draft Thread!! *

Upon reality's re-entry, all of us are crushed. :bricks: All of our posting from August to April is dust in the wind come late April, and the only place that information is useful ever again is the "Told Ya So" section of the forum.

Speak for yourself, my good man. I am never crushed, regardless of outcomes.

True, I am disappointed, at times, when Mad Bill's Drafts don't precisely reproduce my Mocks. :nooo:

But he's young. There's still time for'm to perfect his Craft. ;)

I'm just concerned that upon Reality's Reentry, when all these #6 Dreams are suddenly shattered and cast to the wind, some'f you ~ having acquired an unexpected Addiction to #6 ~ are gonna be crushed. :(

One of my pre-draft binkies is a 2014 1st. :)

Spoken like a true draft veteran! :p

Warning!! This is a heavily plagiarised mock. Many thanks to Sciz and Mayo for four of the prospects that follow:

Let Welker and Vollmer leave.

Re-sign Edelman, Woodhead, Arrington, Talib

Sign Ed Reed, Brian Hartline

#29 Trade: ARI trade #38, 102, 166 for #29

Obligatory QB trade up

#38 Kyle Long, OT, Oregon

He comes from a system BB trusts, has the athleticism and upside BB likes and has the bloodlines that BB respects. I was down on him early but have increasingly warmed to him. I can certainly see the OT upside and think he could be an outstanding RT but I can also see him playing at OG where he just swamps opposing DL players with his size.

#60 Markus Wheaton, WR, Oregon St.

I've said plenty on Wheaton, he's my favourite WR in the draft. Thankfully, I like Hopkins and Patton almost as much and would be perfectly happy if either of them were taken in this spot. I'd even settle for Robert Woods. This is a great spot to take a WR.

#91 Brandon Williams, DT, Missouri Southern

Was impressed by his performances in Senior Bowl practices, he's very quick for a 340lb guy. I don't think he's ready to make too much of an impact early but I certainly think there's exciting long-term potential in him.

#100 Trade: TB trade #124 and #142 for NE #102

#124 Leon Mcfadden, CB, SDSU

No-one can convince me that there is a better cover corner at this point in the draft than Mcfadden. Yes he lacks ideal height but I'm more bothered about my CB's actually being near a WR than being tall and trailing by five steps.

#142 Trade #142/166 to BAL for ##125/#191

#125 Marquise Goodwin, WR, Texas

This pick is all about speed on the offense. It will likely be a year or so before Goodwin starts producing effectively, but Goodwin/Demps gives our offense some real speed.

#191 Cornelius Washington, DE, Georgia

Specialist passing down pass rusher

#212 Levine Toilolo, TE, Stanford

He's really really tall. And that's impressive.

#221 Kyle Juszczyk, TE, Harvard

Excelled as a blocker at Senior Bowl practice and has outstanding hands. Will likely be a pre-season battle with that other hard to spell TE/FB Michael Hoomanawanui.

38 seems a bit high for Kyle Long to me. But it's a really nice mock.

I'd prefer a different FA safety (or one through the draft), but solid overall effort.

I can sort of see Juszczyk, but what role would Toilolo have? I don't see him beating out Ballard unless Ballard isn't healthy.

3rd and goal from the two. Pats go 'Stanford'. Ballard, Gronkowski and Toilolo in-line with Juszczyk at FB and Ridley behind. Pats can power run up the middle, off-tackle behind Gronk, Ballard and Juszczyk or send four big receivers into all parts of the endzone where Brady can put the ball where no defender other than 6'6" or 6'7" defenders can get it.

End result?

TD!!!

:woohoo:

I don't want Long anymore, not up that high, but I like the rest. I wonder if Wheaton and Goodwin are too similar. They're both about 180 pounds and run 4.3s - lightweight speedster types.

I love Toilolo. Unlike most TE prospects, Toilolo can actually block and catch. He' has a big upside too. He should run in the 4.80 area at 6'8".

I know Goodwin has been the flavor of the week, but he's been on my want list for 6 months. He's finally had a opportunity to showcase his talent, but even I didn't know he was this good. I think he's still undervalued and there's a smaller gap between him and Tavon Austin than most people think.

Wheaton is a refined receiver, not just a speedster. He's a better Branch or Lloyd. Goodwin is a raw speedster who may never develop into a relied upon receiver. They really aren't that similar in my eyes.

That is how it happens: Y'all start off, readily admitting that this "Mallett for #6" business is a Fantasy, as you build Mocks off of it...Just a little Fun. An Innocent Indulgence. Something for a chuckle or two...But sooner or later one of you just rolls it out there without an Asterisk...and before you know it, half the guys on this Board are gonna be doing the same thing!! Eventually, half the guys ~ maybe more ~ complete the process of convincing themselves that there's actually even a particle of Reality involved ~ as opposed to some Wonk pulling the idea straight out'f'is Colon, which is in fact exactly how this all got started.

I'm just concerned that upon Reality's Reentry, when all these #6 Dreams are suddenly shattered and cast to the wind, some'f you ~ having acquired an unexpected Addiction to #6 ~ are gonna be crushed. :(

In five years I think Mallet will be the best QB in the league, QB is a premium position. Look what the Redskins gave up for RG3. Not saying it is going to happen but I wouldn't be surprised to see the 6th overall pick given up for him.

They are similar in physical tools and measurables. Wheaton is just taller.

If you look at the teams that beat us this season (and most teams since 2007) they all did it by playing physical press at the LOS, flooding the middle with linebackers, and hitting as hard as they could when given the opportunity.

I'm afraid Wheaton and Goodwin would fall victim to that strategy too. They just aren't physically strong enough, like Lloyd, Moss, Welker, Branch, and so on. I still like them, I'm just not sure they are exactly what we need.

We'll have to agree to disagree. In my eyes, Wheaton is the perfect Patriots receiver both football skill wise and character wise. Mind you, I said that about Marvin Jones :bricks: (although Wheaton is more perfect :) )

That's a claim. I like Mallett quite a bit but if that's the case, a) we better not trade him or B) if we do, I want more than #6 overall. Now all we have to do is persuade Lombardi of this fact.

I just wonder whether Mallett might not be a fit for the Eagles. Yes, he's not mobile but he's just spent a year learning something very similar to what Chip Kelly wants to do. His fast paced offense is alien to the NFL, why not get a QB in who can run it from day one? Also, Kelly has said that he's more interested in a passer than a runner. To be fair, Kelly will probably want someone more mobile than Mallett but he could be a good stop gap until the right QB becomes available.

Yep, I was a it hesitant on the #6 but decided to mock it anyways. a 2014 conditional pick would have to be thrown in preferably.

Wait a second. . . . Grid, when did you come around on Mallett, and thinking that he could be the best QB in the NFL? Weren't you willing to trade him for anything the Patriots could get?
