Re: OT: Vick named Eagles Starter

Your post said he had one good game against the Lions, I pointed out you were wrong. Are you saying Vick had a bad game against the Packers?

Kolb played the first half, the offense scored 3 points. Vick played the second half, the offense scored 17 points. With the following stats...

16/24
175 passing yards (1 TD / 0 INTs)
103 rushing yards (9.3 Average)
101.9 QB Rating

Let's look over his career and not judge him on 3 halfs of football, (2 against one of the worst teams in the NFL).

Michael Vick has a career 76.8 quaterback rating.
Donovan McNabb has a career 86.6 quarterback rating.
Tony Romo has a career 95.0 quarterback rating.

The following players have a better quarterback rating than Vick.

Re: OT: Vick named Eagles Starter

Vick looked good against the Lions !

The Lions !

I have seen enough of Vick & McNabb to say..... McNabb >>> Vick.

The move to Kolb, was a move for the future.
I did not agree with dumping McNabb and I sure don't agree with having
Vick as your QB of the future.

If anything... .I think the Eagles should trade Vick to a team
that really needs a QB. (Raiders would be a perfect fit).

Kolb has never looked good, NEVER. This has nothing to do with the McNabb trade because whats done is done, Kolb was supposed to be the future but the Eagles made a move for the future and Kolb might not be the future. At this point in time, Vick>>>Kolb and I don't know how anyone could argue that. What the Eagles might do is resign Vick after the season and keep him around for a while.

I have not idea if Kolb is any good. I have not seen enough of him.

Vick has proven to be a flashy QB who cannot win when it counts.
If that is what you want... go with Vick.

You're completely changing the discussion now, though.

We were just saying you're wrong to say his only good performance this year was against the Lions. He played great against the Packers.

There's no evidence that Kolb would better the better starting QB for the Eagles right now.

My original post said the following....

Vick looked good against the Lions !

The Lions !

He played a complete game against the Lions.
He did not play a complete game against the Packers and they lost !

Vick could have tied the game against the Packers by running the ball into the endzone
on 4th down. It would have tied the game.
Instead, he forced the ball to a receiver and the pass went incomplete.

His stats may look good, but that bonehead play
cost them the game.

If you watched the game, the announcers were
all over that bonehead play by Vick.

Best of luck to you and Michal Vick.
I know if they make the playoffs, I will be betting against
Vick & making money.

They probably won't make the playoffs with Kolb, but
then again he could be better than expected.

You know what you are going to get with Vick.
A highlight film that makes bad decisions when
it matters.

Re: OT: Vick named Eagles Starter

When's the last time there was a player as good as Vick at scrambling?

Never.

They were saying that about Randall Cunningham and before that, Fran Tarkenton.

Career Super Bowl victories? Zero. Because they expose their bodies to so much punishment they just have nothing left when it matters.

They can get you TO the playoffs, sure but that's it. Each of the scrambling QBs I mentioned (Elway and Young) found their best success when they started playing more in the pocket.

Scrambling QBs don't win Super Bowls unless they got more than just that going for them.

Re: OT: Vick named Eagles Starter

Michael Vick is a horrible person and its dumb how some people here are defending him and like him. I remember back when people here said he was overrated and now you guys are saying he is some kind legendary qb all of a sudden? since when? I hope the eagles lose every game with him as qb. I hope some player breaks his legs or twists his ankle on purpose.

Last year after McNabb got hurt in the Carolina game, Kolb started and played two games vs N. O. (loss) and KC ( a win). His stats in those two games with over 300 yards passing in each, total of 55/75 718 yards 4 Td, 3 Int and a QB rating of 104.2. And he looked good ( for a guy starting his first two games- think back to Cassel for comparison)and that is why the Eagles opted to trade McNabb with an eye on the future. .

Like any football fan without an agenda can see vick is better than kolb is right now As a team you have to go with what gets you a win and kolb looked rattled and confused in his limited time against the packers.

Its a lot easier to have success in the nfl when defenses have little tape on you and are not gameplanning to stop you as the clear cut starter @ Qb that bullseye gets alot bigger.

If you hate vick as a person for dogfighting than thats your preference but it shouldn't take precedence in a sports conversation that's idiotic.

He looked good in the KC game, not in the New Orleans game. But I regress, he did look good against KC!

KC!

Re: OT: Vick named Eagles Starter

On WIP radio in Philly, the morning crew is roasting Andy Reid, one of the worst in-game HCs in football (as per Michael Lombardi). They're speculating that perhaps the decision to name Vick the starter vs. Jax came from higher-up; or that the OL is so bad, Kolb would get sacked a dozen times & get concussed again. As it was, Vick was sacked 6 times vs. Detroit, but escaped from at least another 6.

My view from South Central PA:

The Eagles realized (finally) that Donovan McPuke will never, ever bring them to the Promised Land, and because both his & Kevin Kolb's contracts expired at the end of this year, a decision had to be made. And that decision was the correct one: trade McPuke for whatever he can fetch. Many fans were worried, scared even, that he was traded to the Skins; but I keep telling my Eagles friends the story about Drew Bledsoe & the Bills.

I remember thinking during the 2007 draft that Kolb was over-drafted by a round & 1/2. He came from a school (UHouston) which produced 2 of the biggest QB busts in league history, and still runs basically the same offense. And Philly traded their 1st-rounder (to Dallas!), then instead of giving McPuke the weapons he always said he lacked, they drafted his competition. The Eagles were ripped here for not only trading their 1st-rounder to the enemy, but for drafting someone with their first pick who might never see the field for the duration of his rookie contract. Not smart asset management - not then, not now.

Kolb seemed a better fit for the Green Bay version of the WC offense, from which Reid matriculated, than McPuke ever did. Kolb was more accurate & more decisive in the pocket, and the 2 games he started last year seemed to bear that out. However, he has looked bad all summer, and that trend continued throughout the 1st half of their 1st game. He looked unsure, tentative and - when the pocket began collapsing with regularity - scared. IOW, like Andre Ware & David Klingler looked when the pressure came. The moral of the story: Never, ever draft a UHouston QB with your first pick.

Michael the Top Dog Vick, OTOH, has been exactly what the offense has needed: a QB who can escape the pressure that this sieve of an OL continues to allow, yet still can keep his eyes downfield on his dynamic receivers. He should tear the Jags to shreads this week; the issue will be the future success of Vick once the other teams, better teams, devise game plans to contain him & force him to stay in the pocket.

As for Top Dog the person: he's an excreble, heartless dimwit. But the Law says that he has paid his debt to society, so what are you gonna do? If your an Eagles fan, you hold your nose & hope for the best.

Re: OT: Vick named Eagles Starter

NFL Cirius radio is reporting that Vick has been named the starter for the rest of the season.

I thought it was just for the Jax game +, but apparantly it's more permanent than that - until Reid reserves the right to change his mind, again.

Jeez, this was handled clumsily, to say the least.

Reid is trying to keep his job?
