* Ye Olde 2013 Mock Draft Thread!! *

There was a poster here who was pimping David Bass to no end. Not sure who. I've read that he's a great athlete who can drop and run sideline to sideline like a linebacker or safety, and would be best used in a hybrid edge role like Ninkovich or one of my all time favorite non-Pats, Julian Peterson.

Mackenzie was the first one pimping him and I'm inclined to agree, I've only seen a little footage of him but think he'd be a great pickup. We just need more draft picks, always need more picks...

Dane Brugler has his Top 100 at CBS:

2013 NFL Draft: Top 100 draft board - CBSSports

If I was to do a quick mock based on this, I'd go:

Round 1:

Trade back in to the mid second, picking up a mid third

Round 2A

Markus Wheaton, WR, Oregon State

It's touch and go with Patton and Hopkins, but he's still my #1 WR in the draft.

Round 2B

Menelik Watson OT, Florida State

I think the limit's sky high with Watson providing he tests out as smart enough to take coaching and if his arms are long enough. Obviously for the purposes of this quickie mock, I'm assuming we haven't re-signed Vollmer.

Anyway, I'm developing more and more of a draft crush for Watson with every passing day and it would be nice to see a Brit on the New ENGLAND Patriots. Doubt he's here on draft day.

Round 3A

Stedman Bailey, WR, W Virginia

Tough call because there's a lot of candidates I'd take in the mid third according to Brugler's board: Terrance Williams, Brandon Williams, Ace Sanders, Da'rick Rogers and Barrett Jones are all possibilities. Ask me tomorrow and I might have someone else here.

Round 3B

Leon Mcfadden, CB, SDSU

My second favourite prospect in the draft. It's unlikely there'll be a mock from me between now and draft day without him in it - as long as he doesn't run really slow at the combine.

So how would you go?

Edit: Just a note on the two WR's I picked. BB tends not to go for the bigger less agile WR's, rather favouring quickness. That's why I like these two as well as the fact that they offer the ability to stretch the game downfield.

Brugler has had a lot of movement in his top prospects lately. I wonder if that's from his own eyes or from talking to scouts.

In his mock he has Austin and Rang has us taking Elam. While I like both players I don't think I would use a first on either.

He has:

Vacarro 28
Hankins 30
Ogletree 34

I think they are all gone by our pick but if one slides I would use a first on them. Vacarro is a better cover guy than Elam and has more versatility. LB isn't a need but Ogletree would be our best cover LB the day he walked into practice which while not saying much is a need. If they were all on the board I think I'd go Vacarro but he's the least likely to slide.

Second round John Jenkins who he has rated at 62 to beef up the line and eventually replace VW.

Third round I like your pick of McFadden so I'll roll with him as well.

Another site has a mock with our pick up. Football future. Who ya got?
They have Matt Barklet still on the board with Tyler Wilson going 8th. I'm
guessing the opposite would be the real draft. Would Arizona trade up for
T. Wilson or Glennon? Would they give us a 2nd for Mallett? If we just go
by the board I'd take Datone Jones - DE - UCLA. Going to try Armstead at
DT in the 3-tech. Considered Sam Montgomery and Okafor. But, I think Jones
can slide inside and may even be able to play 5-tech as a 3-4 de. While Monty and Okafor are 4-3 de's. Also, Fluker is still on board. S. Williams and J. Jenkins at DT.
Trufant at cb. Reid and Elam at safety. A host of wr's.

1. Kansas City Chiefs: Geno Smith QB WVU
2. Jacksonville Jaguars: Star Lotulelei DT Utah
3. Oakland Raiders: Damontre Moore DE TAM
4. Philadelphia Eagles: Luke Joeckel OT TAM
5. Detroit Lions: Bjoern Werner DE FSU

I wonder if Datone Jones will even be on the board as a first rounder with only 32" arms. It's noticeable that it was only when Chandler Jones came along with his 35" arms that BB went for that first round pass rusher. Don't know, just a thought.

Anyway, just to be different to yourself, I'll say no.

I've got three I'd like to see taken in the first round based on this scenario:

Cornelius Carradine - Dependent on medical. Excellent pass rusher with what seems like excellent length. Even if he's red-shirted a year, would be worth taking.

Quinton Patton - Has drawn plenty of comparisons to Reggie Wayne in terms of style of play and BB liked Wayne a lot.

Menelik Watson - This is dependent on Vollmer's status and Watson's arm length.

Other than that, I'd probably trade down.

29 to Eagles for 35 and 98
35 to Bears for 50 and 114
50 Phillip Thomas, S, Fresno State
59 Markus Wheaton, WR, Oregon State
91 Cobi Hamilton, WR, Arkansas
98 Cornellius Carradine, DE, Florida State
114 Blidi Wreh-Wilson, CB, Connecticut
7th Tyrann Mathieu, CB, formerly of LSU
7th Zach Boren, FB/LB, Ohio State

Notable UDFA:
Ray Ray Armstrong, S, formerly of Miami
Mark Harrison, WR, Rutgers
Brandan Bishop, FS, NC State
Joseph Fauria, TE, UCLA
Joe Kruger, DE, Utah
Kapron Lewis-Moore, DT, Notre Dame
Marcus Cromartie, CB, Wisconsin
Tom Wort, ILB, Oklahoma
Baker Steinkuhler, DT, Nebraska

A mock draft is being done by MockOne which uses scouts and analysts as the GMs for teams. This is very well done. It's been going on for 2 days. This is the Pats so far complete with trade explanations below. It's ongoing so check in again later. (As an added bonus, Rumford picked my #1 CB, Jamar Taylor)

New England Patriots

On the clock: Washington Redskins, Pick: 3.23

General Manager: @RumfordJohnny

Pick Overall Choice Notes
2.03 35 Jamar Taylor, CB
from Boise State With the CB position in flux for NE (Talib a FA, Dennard facing jail time), the Patriots actually get the top CB on their board in RD2, and a true press corner.
3.13 75 Khaseem Greene, OLB
from Rutgers The Pats have a great trio of LBs...who can stop the run. However, they've been a liability in pass coverage. Enter Greene, a former safety who can can stick like glue to TEs and is equally sound vs. the run. BPA.
3.29 91

4.04 98

4.28 122

7.12 202

I go for Jonathan Cyprien in this spot, although a small trade down to early-mid second may still allow us to get Cyprien and the bonus pick. That said I'd have taken any three picks before us Vacarro, Hopkins and Rhodes.

1. Johnthan Banks, CB, Mississippi State
2. Markus Wheaton, WR, Oregon State

7. Luke Tasker, WR, Cornell

Trade 1 back for mid 2nd and 3rd unless J Cooper or DeAndre Hopkins are still on the board.

2A Wheaton
2B Logan Ryan
3A Da'Rick Rogers, My binkie.
3B Trade back for 4 and 5
4 Reid Fragel
5 Cornelius Washington (who may rise)
7 Hester/Hyde/Haden, CB with some upside. Want to see D McCoils speed to see if he could develop into a press man CB.
7 Conor Vernon

or

1 J Cooper/ D Hopkins
2 trade back for 3 and 4
3A Da'Rick Rogers
3B Leon McFadden
4 Reid Fragel
7s are the same

Both of these are outstanding mocks. Good job.

If we let Welker walk, the two-wr draft might be the way to go. Trade Mallett to Arizona for a 2nd.

1. DeAndre Hopkins - WR
2A Markus Wheaton - WR
2B J. Cyprien - S
3 B. Winters OL

Signing Talib and D. Freeney. Hope Hopkins beats out Edelman. Wheaton can really push Lloyd on the other side. Prob wouldn't need Brandon in 2014.

If a first-rounder can't beat out a seventh-round QB convert. . . . :bricks:

Mallett for a 2nd?

Assuming Geno Smith and Barkley go in the first. You don't think he's as good as Matt Glennon or Tyler Wilson?

I haven't seen him play enough to consider him as good as Glennon or Wilson, but from what I've seen, the answer is no.

Rumor is that Alex Smith is being traded for a 4th rounder, no way we get a second for Mallett.

He was better at Arkansas than Tyler Wilson was. And, is infinitely better than Glennon.

remember this...dream picks-Xavier Rhodes and Cordarelle Patterson but realistic picks I really like and think we should and may do depending on free agency...1st rd Josh Boyce TCU wr and 2nd rd pick Darius Slay cb miss st...love both picks, great great players and would tremendously help us.:singing::rocker:[/COLOR]

Way early for both imo. Although I do agree they both had fine combines.

I've seen about a dozen mock drafts this morning and no one has Hopkins or Justin Hunter in the first.

It's still only limited to Austin, Patterson and Allen.
